Yakira Pais is a practicum student completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. As a Dutch-Rwandan Canadian woman, she brings a multicultural perspective to her work and values embracing diverse approaches. She is passionate about creating a warm, welcoming, and respectful space where clients can share their identities, experiences, and worldviews. Yakira is particularly drawn to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as she appreciates its practical, strengths-based approach. She remains open to integrating other therapeutic modalities that best fit each client’s individual needs. Yakira’s developing therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, collaboration, and genuine connection. In addition to her counselling training, Yakira works as an administrator at a neurorehabilitation clinic supporting children with movement disorders, brain injuries, and genetic disorders. Working with healthcare professionals, families, and children has strengthened her commitment to compassion-based care and individualized support. Through this experience, she has developed a deeper appreciation for neurodiversity and resilience. Yakira is committed to fostering an open-minded and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel heard and understood. She strives to build trusting relationships that help clients explore their concerns, recognize their strengths, and move toward achieving their goals.
