About Melaney

My name is Melaney and I am passionate about treating trauma related concerns. I'm a trauma survivor myself and over the last five years working as a therapist in the public system I've developed extensive experience working with several trauma therapy models such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), and I have been recently trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I worked for three years in the community of Antigonish with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health presentations including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and currently I work with children and families impacted by trauma and attachment injuries in Halifax. I am excited to begin offering my services to folks in the private sector as well! I completed my MSW at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) with a focus on treating mental health and addictions from a trauma-informed, harm reduction approach. My practicum was in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood where I gained much experience and insight into working with trauma and addictions. In Vancouver I also became interested in the therapeutic potential of psychedelic-assisted therapy and I'm currently wrapping up psilocybin therapy training through TheraPsil. I look forward to psychedelic-assisted therapy becoming legal and accessible over the next few years and I'm passionate about psychedelic harm reduction. Other therapy models I draw from include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC). I also use the Collaborative Problem Solving model (CPS) in working with families and children with behavioural issues. Another area of interest of mine is supporting clients through loss, grief and the mourning process. I am committed to social justice and incorporate compassion into my work with clients.
