“Finding a therapist that I connect with has been a daunting task over the years with few results. Just over a year ago, I began meeting with Michael Olenik on a regular basis. It has been such a positive experience. Michael meets me where I am at, and has a genuine interest in seeing me grow. I am very grateful for his style of therapy, connecting and encouraging me reflect. I would recommend Michael very strongly.”Read moreShow less

“I would like to provide a 5 STAR review for Michael Olenik. It is very important when searching for help you must find the right fit. They must be an active listener, empathetic with the knowledge to help guide you to the insight you need to take ownership of your life and be on the path of self-discovery and self-care. Michael has always been that person for me. Michael is a valuable asset to the mental health provider landscape of Nova Scotia and as a health care provider myself, would recommend him to others to provide the valuable guidance I have had the privilege to receive. Thank you”Read moreShow less

“I’ve been seeing Michael Olenik for counselling since September 2024. I originally began working with him to navigate a partnership in my life. From the beginning, Michael listened with deep attention, empathy, and kindness. During our conversations, he would gently highlight the moments when something I said sounded like a vibrant “yes,” or a full-bodied “no.” Through this, he helped me learn to listen more closely to my body’s intuitive signals so I could make decisions that were truly right for me. By November, I had made shift in my life path that turned out to be completely for the best, and I’m much happier because of it. Michael supported me through that transition. I often leave our sessions feeling empowered, with the sense that even when one chapter of life ends, it can still be understood as a successful and meaningful one. Over the course of about 24 sessions with Michael, our conversations have expanded to include both the joys of life and the many forms of grief we encounter. I’ve had space to talk about the grief of stepping away from family relationships that are no longer nourishing, the grief of death, the grief of a changing body, and the grief of a changing world. I’ve also been able to speak openly about some of my deepest struggles from childhood and begin to make sense of them. Michael meets these moments with empathy and reminds me that the younger parts of ourselves deserve care and grace. He often reminds me that all emotions have value, and that they can be powerful teachers. Through this work, I’ve come to understand more deeply how important it is to allow ourselves to feel grief, anger, and loss in order to fully experience joy, aliveness, and what it means to be human. Because of this work, I feel like I am living much more fully and alive. Finding a counsellor I felt safe with and could gradually open up to was not easy for me. I’m really grateful that I trusted my instincts and booked that first session with Michael. Michael is REAL and also professional, and has provided exceptional care and support. His work is highly valued in my world of healthcare.”Read moreShow less

“I've been seeing Michael Olenik for two years now and he's been absolutely fantastic. He strikes a great balance between supporting me and cultivating safety while also not being afraid to gently push me and provide some objectivity on very subjective experiences. I can't recommend him enough; he's been incredibly helpful in my growth as a person and has guided me through some very rough experiences with grace and professionalism.”Read moreShow less

“Michael is such a valuable addition to the ever suffering mental health field of Nova Scotia. He treats his clients/patients with a substantive understanding of systemic issues and provides a very safe place for self analysis and radical acceptance. His understanding, kindness, professionalism, as well as his decolonized approach to his practice makes him one of the best therapists in Halifax.”Read moreShow less

“When I first started therapy a few years ago my friends told me it would be difficult to find someone who fit me just right. They could not have been more wrong - my google search landed me on Michael Olenik and we've been working together ever since. Michael is very compassionate and caring, he has helped me through some difficult times in my life and also some good times. He's there for me no matter what is going on in my life. He is extremely helpful always and most importantly is confident discussing topics relating to LGBTQ+ and alternative lifestyles. I'm so very grateful to have landed on him when I did!”Read moreShow less
