About Evelyn

Welcome. I’m glad that your curiosity and openness has brought you here today. My name is Evelyn, and my pronouns are she/her. I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in BC (#18405) and Ontario (#865694) I completed my Bachelor of Arts from University of British Columbia (UBC) and Master of Social Work from the University of Calgary. I am a first generation Chinese-Canadian raised in a Cantonese speaking household. I am introverted, reflective, able-bodied and an empath. My approach is open, kind, non-judgemental, anti-oppressive and I want to truly get to know you, your stories and what you are comfortable sharing first before we consider any modalities. It is important for me to learn about your history and the hardships that you bring. I am passionate about working with individuals that are navigating life’s stressors whether it be with work, family, school or through their transitional life phases especially when it comes to different cultural upbringings that may extend its pressures to your current stage in life. I work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, brief, loss, life transitions, self worth and finding themselves. I understand what it can feel like to juggle the complexities and the mental health challenges that come with it. My lived experience allows me to bring forward a compassionate and empathetic lens to walk you through your unique journey. I want to support my clients to regain their strength in knowing they are capable of building a life that is filled with resilience. It’s important to me to allow people to know that they are the experts of their own lives and for me to come as a learner of their stories. My goal as a therapist is to invite my clients to express themselves in an emotionally healthy way, to share their memories and continue to bring their experiences into our safe space. I am transparent and authentic in the way I navigate conversations and always welcome your thoughts for us to better understand one another. Over the years I have dedicated my time in crisis responding, education, health care environments and value working with people navigating some of the hardest days of their lives. That's why I believe in collaborating with my clients through trauma informed and person centred counselling approaches by working with choice, safely and through trust. I can speak English and conversational Cantonese, and I see clients both in-person in Vancouver and virtually. I am registered with the BC College of Social Workers and Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. If you are receiving third party funding for counselling, please check with your insurance provider to see if you will be covered prior to booking with me. I invite you to book a free 15-minute phone consultation with me or you can reach out to me directly via email: evelynchancounselling@gmail.com.
