About Emily

Emily Merritt is a Registered Speech and Language Pathologist and Certified Lactation Counsellor. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Masters of Science in Speech and Language Pathology following the completion of an Honours Bachelor Degree in Music Cognition from McMaster University. Emily is originally from Mount Forest but has spent time living and working in Nova Scotia, Northern Alberta and the West Midlands of England before returning home to Wellington County. Emily uses a family-centred approach focusing on functional goals that can have a broad impact. She has an interest in working with infants and parents to support feeding goals. She has experience working in rural and culturally diverse areas in both school and community based settings. Emily has gained experience working with a variety of developmental and acquired speech and language difficulties including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Specific Language Impairment, Stuttering, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Aphasia and Apraxia. She has completed training within the area of lactation/infant feeding support, behaviour management, regulation, and augmentative and alternative communication. Emily has a passion for working with families, using evidence-based, client centred approaches within her practice to educate, consult, assess and provide therapy for clients with speech, feeding, literacy language, and fluency challenges.
