About Charis

Contact: [charis@thepsychologygroup.ca] or (587) 850-2844 As individuals, we each have a unique set of values that guide us. We may or may not be aware of what these values are, and they may shift over time and with experience. I believe that by understanding what is most important to us we have an opportunity to use this information to manage our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviour in a way that allows peace of mind and authenticity, which in turn leads to a meaningful life. Using our values to direct our choices and ground us in who we are can allow us to overcome challenges and put us on a path to becoming our best selves. Part of my work with clients involves taking a step back, examining existing beliefs and challenging whatever doesn’t stand up to our personal, relational, or professional values. Our work together will be collaborative and tailored to your unique needs and goals. My approach to counselling is founded in the following evidence-based theories: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Existential Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and some aspects of Narrative Therapy. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Mount Royal University and Master of Science in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary. My undergraduate and graduate research focused on the experiences of polyamorous folks and the impacts of living in a society that prioritizes monogamy. I have received additional training in Narrative Therapy from the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy and Calgary Narrative Collective and Compassion Cultivation Training from the Compassion Institute at Stanford University. Through my life experience, work, and research, I have gained extensive knowledge about exploring, managing, and navigating consensually/ethically non-monogamous relationships and 2SLGBTQ+ issues. Additionally, my areas of focus include relationship counselling, anxiety, depression, identity development, stress management, life transitions, values exploration, and existential considerations. Selecting/finding a psychologist with whom you feel comfortable can be a challenging task, and as such, I am happy to have a phone or video conversation with you to determine if we might be a good fit. Please contact me to set up a free initial consultation so we can learn a little bit about each other! Contact: [charis@thepsychologygroup.ca] or (587) 850-2844
