“Joy's classes, particularly the Restoration/Rebalancing classes have been life-changing, in the best possible sense. Every trip to the mat is a masterclass in technique, with eloquent articulation/explanation of the science behind the kaleidoscope of mind-body-breath connections. The cueing is impeccable. Joy does a terrific job of reading the room, tailoring each of her classes to the needs of the participants. She is particularly attentive to the needs of new participants and those returning to classes with injuries/illnesses. I've been calling it "physiyoga" and these classes have been the most effective element in my journey of injury recovery to date. Whether you've been practicing for decades or you're contemplating trying yoga for the first time...you will learn much about your body and how to extend/refine your practice.”Read moreShow less

“I feel so blessed to have discovered this studio. The owner Joy and the other instructors Beau and Jacqui have an incredible wealth of knowledge on the body. They really take it back to the foundations and break down to every posture, every muscle, in detail. I always learn so much new anatomy in each class and discover new fascinating things about the body. Joy is an incredibly generous owner and makes yoga accessible and affordable for all. Today in class I won a free 10 class pass for yelling out an answer to an anatomy question. I can't even believe it! I feel so welcome and at home in this studio. It really has a personal feel because of the people leading it. The infrared panels and the wood fire are also such a nice touch and a good size to accommodate a large class. I am just loving it. This is what yoga is all about. Maybe one day I will take a YTT here 🥰”Read moreShow less

“A gem within Nelson. Joy brims with passion for yoga, she has a way of painting clear and concise anatomy cues laced with humor. There’s wisdom and release work in each class and homework if you want it off the mat into your life. There’s a strong inclusion and community in her classes and makes this studio very homey. The upper studio provides glimpses of the mountain and skies while basked in natural light in an old church setting with clean handcrafted touches. It’s a beautiful place to practice and reflect on your path in life. Grateful for this place!”Read moreShow less

“Shanti is the place I go when I crave connection to my community, to myself and to my practice. Joy, the owner, is one of the most welcoming and giving humans that I've ever met. She masterfully identifies imbalances and tailors classes to the needs of everyone in the room. She weaves western scientific knowledge of the human body with Eastern philosophy in the most beautiful way. She encourages the safest practice of yoga that I have ever experienced. Some poses practiced at other studios are omitted because the risks outweigh the benefits. I greatly appreciate this because my focus is on strengthening my core and rebalancing my muscles for the benefit of other athletic pursuits. Additionally, Joy only hires the highest quality of instructors to teach at her studio. I have been attending many classes with Beau Fuller lately and he is an incredible teacher. Big thanks to Joy and everyone at Shanti!”Read moreShow less

“Joy is a lovely human! The combination of Joy's authenticity, attention to detail and wisdom of the body, the beautiful reclaimed old church as the studio and the kind community of folks that practice at Shanti makes this a special place to practice yoga. Side note, I appreciate that the studio is simple and humble. No mirrors, no product pushing or a certain image or lifestyle. Many yoga teachers and studios can be flashy or push products or ego driven and this is not the case at Shanti. Love and light”Read moreShow less

“I was in Nelson on a layover day on a two week cycling tour around the Selkirk Mountains. I decided to take a yoga class at Shanti Yoga Studio and was so glad I did! Joy, was warm, inviting, and a phenomenal yoga instructor. She took good care of me and was so welcoming. I left feeling great in so many ways when I left the studio. I highly recommend taking Joy's classes at the studio even as a drop in.”Read moreShow less

“We've been visiting Nelson for the winter and the Warm Flow yoga with Joy has been one of my many highlights! Shanti is a really diverse and welcoming community so I felt right at home, and safe given Joy's extensive understanding of anatomy. So much learning, presented in lovely little vignettes and so much progress, strengthening my Whitewater core! That's with a capital W as opposed to whitewater paddling - which I'm sure I could tackle now too! Thanks so much Joy - 'hope to make it back next year!”Read moreShow less
