True story: I've been looking for therapists in various cities across North America for 30 years - -never an easy task, finding someone "good." But Cornerstone was an impressive experience for me, right from the intake interview to the placement with the right counsellor. Something about this place just made me feel cared for and understood from the moment the receptionist picked up at the phone. Thanks to the dozens of therapists on staff, the right therapist (for me) was already in the building. And I didn't have to drive all over the city to find the solution I needed.

How is this place not capable of getting told they're stealing?! I Came for my counselling session which cost 235$ for half an hour and got almost 0 service. The assistant psychologist was less experienced on law than a waitress in Earls 170th street who's younger and isn't even a psychologist at all. Other than perhaps a few moments of humour and very mild advice, his support on my emotional pain from GYMVMT's termination of my membership was VERY poor.

Listen to the one star reviews. Their bottom line is getting your money. They claim values like compassion, inclusivity, and reducing barriers to care, and the counsellors seem to reflect those values. But the reality is they are inflexible, transactional, and dismissive in the way they handle cancellations or missed appointments. They are far more willing to fill their schedule than keep clients coming back. They send you an email after every session asking you to review the service you received, putting more effort into building up reputation than into upholding their values.

I want to be clear that my counsellor has been excellent, and the clinical care itself has been helpful. My issue is with Cornerstone’s administration and policies. After an injury left me without income, I reached out during a difficult relapse asking for some flexibility so I could continue with my regular counsellor. Instead, I was met with rigid enforcement of a “missed appointment fee,” even though their own website acknowledges that unforeseen events such as illness or hardship can occur. Cornerstone advertises values like compassion, inclusivity, and reducing barriers to care. Unfortunately, my experience with the administration was the opposite: inflexible, transactional, and dismissive of the very real barriers I was facing. It felt like policies mattered more than people. I reluctantly agreed to repay the balance just so I could continue treatment, but it left me disheartened. I wish the administration side of Cornerstone would live up to the same values and compassion that their counsellors demonstrate in session.

I would not recommend this place, The first time I went, a lady at reception was very rude to me and was asking me for proof of income and I told her that I’m paying the full amount and I don’t need subsidized rate and she’s started acting different after she used a really rude tone with me, the second time was OK but then the third time I booked I had to call to move the apt about six hours before my appointment as I had an emergency and they are going to go ahead and charge me for the full appointment not even a late fee just a full appointment which I find really unreasonable. I did like the therapist I was seeing they seemed very nice however, I found most of the time they talked a lot more than I did which I found a bit different from when I was used to. I find their cancellation policy interesting because all the other counselling/therapy places I’ve ever been have always been really understanding if it’s an emergency and or they charge you a late fee not the full price of the appointment. Not to mention, I find the front and staff to just be really rude. For context, I work a job in palliative care so often times I’ll have a client who is unexpectedly declining and passing and the family request that I’d be there so it’s really hard to make my schedule so this definitely could be a place that doesn’t work for me but others may like. It’s not a relaxing environment if you’re a person like me with high stress and anxiety.

Cornerstone has been absolutely amazing to me. They have amazing, warm and welcoming staff to greet you everyday. They have a wide variety of counsellors from all areas to support their clients. They truly value client service and engagement. Such a safe and supportive environment, I couldn’t recommend cornerstone enough!

I am so glad Cornerstone Counselling is serving Edmonton. I appreciate that they have a sliding scale and are willing to help all. Someone I love has seen a counsellor there and it was very helpful. I am so grateful for kind and compassionate counsellors who are willing to help those who are struggling. I have taken a course with Cornerstone and the group format of learning was life changing. The counsellor led us with wisdom, humour and caring insight. So thankful. Also, great staff!
