About Yu
My work is fueled by a passion for helping people overcome life’s challenges. With 18 years of experience in mental health and 13 years as an individual and family therapist, I’ve had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
My approach to therapy is grounded in empathy, non-judgment, and compassion. I strive to create a safe and supportive space for my clients to explore their thoughts and emotions, meet them where they are, and collaborate with them to set goals and develop strategies for positive change.
My experience includes providing therapy to individuals dealing with a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic school avoidance, parent-child conflict, relationship issues, trauma, suicidal ideation, and self-harm. I draw on a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), among others, to help my clients find the most effective strategies for achieving their goals.
My academic background includes a Masters of Social Work from Wayne State University, with a concentration in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I completed my B.A. in Family and Social Relations and B.A. (H) in Disabilities Studies at the University of Windsor. As a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers, I am committed to providing ethical, professional, and compassionate services.
If you’d like to learn more about my practice and how I can help, I would be happy to offer a complimentary 15-minute session.
