About Tanya
I am proud to say I grew up and spent my whole life living on the traditional territories and homeland of the Dene, Inuit and Métis peoples of the Northwest Territories though in 2022 made Edmonton my home. I spent my career passionately serving Northerners in varying ways before earning my masters degree in counselling; I have always been a counsellor at heart.
I am the happiest when I am on the land camping, hiking, kayaking and discovering hidden swim spots in nature. I also enjoy pottery, yoga, swimming and watching TV.
My Counselling Approach: My counselling style tends to lead with taking a humanistic perspective, which means I take a holistic approach that that focuses on free will, human potential, deep empathy, self-compassion and self-discovery. I aim to help you develop a strong and healthy sense of self, explore your feelings, find meaning, and focus on your strengths, which I can assure you, there are many.
I am passionate about social justice, advocacy and working from an intersectional feminist, anti-systemic, anti-racism, anti-oppressive and inclusive lens. Navigating the world as it is is much more difficult for some than it is for others and that is a problem with our system; not a problem with who you are as a person.
Counselling Specialties: Relationships, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, teens, parenting, personal growth, energy/spirituality, domestic/family violence, women’s issues, recovering after sexual assault. I am qualified to practice Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.
