About Steve

Hi, my name is Steve and I am a clinical intern at Counselling Bruce County while completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with qualifying status through the CRPO. My path to counselling has been shaped by a lifelong curiosity about what helps people grow, adapt, and thrive. Before pursuing my counselling career, I spent nearly two decades in leadership, coaching, and consulting roles, working with musicians, athletes, entrepreneurs, and professionals, as they navigated challenges, pursued meaningful goals, and developed their strengths. These experiences taught me that meaningful growth begins with feeling understood, a lesson that continues to guide my work as a therapist. Who do I work with & what can I help with? I work with youth ages 12+, teenagers, and adults of all genders. I strive to create a welcoming, supportive and non-judgmental space where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences, challenges, and goals. I support clients experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, and challenges related to confidence, self-awareness, and personal growth. I have a particular interest in mindfulness and sport psychology, including supporting athletes and individuals in high-performance environments who are looking to develop resilience, focus, confidence, and a healthier relationship with achievement. Whether you are navigating a difficult season of life, looking to better understand yourself, or hoping to develop new skills and perspectives, I believe therapy can be a meaningful space for growth and change. My Therapeutic Approach My approach is informed by the belief that growth is an ongoing process. Similar to sport and creativity, meaningful change often comes through curiosity, practice, reflection, and compassion toward ourselves. I take an integrative approach to counselling, drawing primarily from Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches. I believe each person has unique strengths, experiences, and values that shape their journey, and my role is to provide a collaborative environment where you feel heard, respected, and supported. Training I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Wilfrid Laurier University, where I explored questions of meaning, identity, and ethics. Philosophy taught me the value of curiosity, critical reflection, and looking beneath the surface to better understand human experiences and perspectives. In addition to my graduate studies, I have completed training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindful Self-Compassion, and am a Certified Sport Psychology Coach. What else should you know? Outside of counselling, I enjoy running, particularly trail and endurance running. Like an endurance run, personal growth is rarely a straight path. There are moments of progress, moments of challenge, and unexpected turns along the way. Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and better understand the path you are on. My goal is to walk alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and support as you navigate your own journey. I will be working Saturdays, Wednesdays during the day and every other Monday during the day. I look forward to working with you!
