About Phil
###I’m Glad You Found Your Way Here
Life does not always unfold the way we expect. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns we do not fully understand. Other times, there is simply a sense that something is not sitting quite right anymore.
If that is where you are, I’m glad you found your way here.
I believe our struggles usually make more sense than we first realize. Together, we can explore your experiences with curiosity rather than judgment. As we begin to understand the patterns, relationships, and experiences that have shaped you, new possibilities can start to emerge.
My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel heard, understood, and less alone. It can also help you gain a clearer sense of who you are, what matters to you, and where you want to go from here.
## My Approach
I see therapy as a genuine partnership. You know your life better than anyone else. My role is to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help us notice things that can be difficult to see when you are living in the middle of them.
Rather than asking what is wrong with you, I find it more helpful to ask what you have been through, how it has shaped you, and what your experiences might be trying to tell us.
Many of the ways we cope began for understandable reasons. They may have helped us navigate difficult relationships, painful experiences, or times when life felt uncertain or overwhelming. Even when those patterns are no longer helping, they often deserve understanding before we try to change them.
I also believe therapy can be a place to explore the larger questions that often emerge during periods of change. You may be wondering who you are becoming, what gives your life meaning, or how to move forward after disappointment, loss, or a life transition. These questions do not always have quick answers, but exploring them can help you reconnect with what matters most and move toward a life that feels more authentic and intentional.
Every person is different, so I adapt the process to fit you. Sometimes we may explore the stories you have come to believe about yourself. Sometimes we may become curious about different parts of you that seem to want different things. At other times, we may focus on practical ways to navigate anxiety, relationships, emotional overwhelm, or difficult patterns.
Whatever we are working on, my goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply while supporting meaningful and lasting change.
## What Therapy With Me Feels Like
People often describe me as calm, kind, and easy to talk to. I want therapy to feel like a real conversation rather than a clinical appointment.
I will meet you with warmth, curiosity, and honesty. I will listen carefully, share observations, ask questions, and help us make connections that may not have been clear before. We will work at a pace that feels manageable while still giving attention to the things that matter.
You will not be expected to have everything figured out before you arrive. We can begin with whatever feels most present and work from there.
Above all, I hope therapy becomes a place where you feel safe enough to be yourself and supported as you move toward the life you want to create.
## A Little About Me
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in communications and education. Those experiences taught me the importance of listening well, asking meaningful questions, and appreciating that every person carries a story that deserves to be understood.
I have also spent many years living and working in different parts of the world. Those experiences deepened my respect for the many wonderfully diverse ways people adapt to change, find resilience, and create meaning in their lives.
Outside of the counselling room, you will often find me exploring local trails or trying something new in the kitchen. Both remind me that growth rarely happens all at once. More often, it comes through paying attention, staying curious, and taking the next step that feels possible.
