About Peter

Peter is passionate about helping others develop enhanced ways of understanding life problems and offering treatments for various types of recurrent pain and suffering. He is skilled in treating Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). He is otherwise prepared to assist with understanding how various mental health disorders come about and what you can do about it. He is equipped to assist you with becoming stable, skillful, and self-confident using evidence-based approaches. He takes a compassionate approach to all treatment scenarios and is ready to support you in meeting your goals by offering a tailored treatment plan. Most of Peter's therapeutic experience has come through working with adults one-on-one, as well as with couples. His treatment approach typically includes elements of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and EMDR. Peter's approach encourages ongoing self-reflection, skill practice and mastery, and the development of emotional intelligence. Peter understands the feelings of guilt and shame that often accompanies mental health difficulties. At the same time, he knows that learning breeds compassion and that this opens the door for adjusting the life experience. He invites clients to move towards a place of improved self-awareness and functioning through learning and application of vital skill sets. Peter achieved his Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology in 2008 from the University of Calgary. He has been studying psychology since 1997 and otherwise been honing his mental health practitioner skills since 2009. He became a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, Canada in 2012. After years of learning and gaining practical experience, he has developed a deep understanding of the internal and external dynamics of commonly experienced mental health disorders. Peter recognizes that many of the contributing factors to mental health disorders often go unrecognized, misunderstood, and mismanaged and that this results in increasing, persisting, and worsening difficulties over time. He has an intimate understanding of mental health difficulty because he (like many others) has experienced it himself and learned how to make improvements."
