Nancy Tavares is a Registered Provisional Psychologist, clinical traumatologist, and holds a Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP).
Her clinical work is grounded in advanced training in trauma, grief, and complex emotional distress, including work with individuals experiencing suicidal ideation. She supports adults navigating profound loss, psychological injury, identity disruption, and the long-term impacts of relational and developmental trauma.
Nancy is especially drawn to working with clients who feel deeply, think deeply, and often carry more emotional weight than others realize. Many of the people she supports describe feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or exhausted by their inner world. Her work focuses on helping clients make sense of their emotional experiences, develop stronger boundaries, and reconnect with a sense of steadiness, meaning, and self-trust.
Her therapeutic approach is relational, depth-oriented, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Nancy works primarily from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), and psychodynamic perspectives, with a strong emphasis on emotional processing, attachment patterns, and the therapeutic relationship. She believes meaningful change occurs when clients feel deeply understood and supported within a safe, attuned therapeutic space. She offers a calm, validating space where clients can slow down, feel seen, and explore their experiences with care, dignity, and respect.
Nancy is also a university instructor and doctoral researcher whose research focuses on highly sensitive and empath therapists, countertransference, and the emotional processes that unfold within therapeutic work. This research informs her clinical sensitivity, reflective practice, and commitment to ethical, emotionally attuned care.
