About Michaela
Michaela graduated from a 3200-hour program at Medicine Hat College with a diploma in Massage Therapy as well as a post-diploma certificate in Sports Massage Therapy and has been practicing since 2008. She has taken additional massage courses and incorporated skills in craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, myofascial therapy, infant massage, orthobionomy, and hot stone. Michaela has also gained various skills and experience working across a variety of settings to include physiotherapy clinics, chiropractic clinics, high-end spas, holistic health clinics, as well as clinical experience in an adult inpatient psychiatry ward.
Michaela also has an Honours Bachelor Degree in Neuroscience where she studied the effects of massage on brain development in baby rats at the University of Lethbridge. She then completed a Master of Science in Applied Clinical Neuropsychology at Trinity College Dublin where she wrote her thesis on how brain changes in Multiple Sclerosis interacts with social cognition. She has found her recent academic pursuits into the mind have improved her understanding of the mind-body connection and how neuroplasticity is a powerful influence on the development and treatment of pain and various conditions. Another insight Michaela gained from this higher education journey is the impact of trauma on all aspects of a person, resulting in a shift to a trauma-informed practice.
Michaela takes a holistic approach to massage, focusing on fascia and the nervous system to deliver gentle yet powerful results. She enjoys supporting clients with chronic pain, nerve issues, women’s health concerns, neurodivergence, functional neurological disorders, and those navigating stress, trauma, or grief.
Outside of her massage practice, you can find Michaela training and competing in Longsword and Melee in Medieval Armored Combat and she is also a certified marshal (referee) in both international leagues. She also loves travelling, tabletop games, taking care of her numerous plants, and spending time with her cat, Hilda.
