Marybeth Fleming brings more than 33 years of clinical, leadership, management, and
occupational health experience to her practice as an Occupational Therapist. Throughout
her career, she has worked extensively across Nova Scotia, providing practical, evidence-
informed services in workplaces, communities, healthcare settings, and complex disability
environments. Her practice is grounded in a fundamental occupational therapy principle:
helping people return to the activities, roles, and occupations that give meaning and
purpose to their lives—with work often being an important part of that journey.
Marybeth has spent many years “boots on the ground” in workplaces, supporting
individuals following physical illness, injury, psychological injury, and other complex health
conditions. Her career has taken her into a wide range of workplaces and communities
throughout Nova Scotia, where she evaluates how an individual's functional abilities interact
with the demands of their home, work, and community environments. She brings a practical
understanding of what it takes to move from clinical recovery toward meaningful participation
in everyday life and employment.
Marybeth has a particular passion for working with first responders and individuals
whose lives and occupational functioning have been affected by psychological
traumatic injury. She understands the complex interaction between psychological health,
cognition, physical functioning, environmental demands, and occupational performance. Her
approach is collaborative, respectful, and focused on identifying realistic pathways toward
recovery, accommodation, participation, and return to work.
Medico-Legal & Forensic Expertise
Marybeth also brings significant experience to medico-legal and litigation-related matters,
providing objective, evidence-informed functional opinions that assist lawyers, insurers, and
other stakeholders in understanding the impact of injury or illness on an individual's ability to
function. Her extensive clinical and workplace experience allows her to assess not only
reported symptoms and diagnoses, but also how those conditions translate into actual
functional limitations and restrictions across work, home, and community environments.
Her medico-legal work may include functional assessments, occupational analysis,
cognitive functional assessments, cognitive and physical functional evaluation, future
costs of care assessments, workplace demands analysis, functional limitations and
restrictions identification, accommodation considerations, return-to-work potential,
and the impact of injury on participation in life's occupations.
Marybeth is experienced in translating complex clinical information into clear, objective,
and defensible functional opinions. She understands the importance of maintaining
clinical objectivity, distinguishing between medical diagnosis and functional impact, and
clearly articulating the relationship between an individual's abilities, limitations,
environmental demands, and occupational requirements.
She is certified and experienced in the use of standardized assessment approaches,
including Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs), Cognitive Functional Evaluations
(CFEs), and Future Cost of Care Assessments. Her broad clinical background and
extensive workplace experience provide a strong foundation for assessments requiring
careful consideration of an individual's current and future functional needs.

corporate, program development, and management experience. She has designed,
developed, led, and implemented evidence-based programs focused on improving employee

Marybeth brings expertise in occupational health, disability management, injury
prevention, functional assessment, workplace accommodation, return-to-work
strategies, and organizational health. She has a strong understanding of the workers’
compensation and insurance landscape and the competing clinical, functional, workplace,
and organizational considerations that can arise in complex disability cases.
A particular strength is her ability to translate clinical knowledge into practical,
measurable solutions. She works collaboratively with employers, insurers, lawyers,
healthcare providers, case managers, employees, and multidisciplinary teams to develop
recommendations that are clinically appropriate, operationally realistic, and sustainable.

what conditions, what barriers exist, what supports may be required, and what
