About Mara
Close your eyes for a second (actually, maybe don’t… because you won’t be able to read), and
think about how much more peace you’d have in your life if anxiety wasn’t calling all the shots.
That’s what I want to help you achieve.
Hi, I’m Mara! I’m currently accepting new clients in Sea to Tree’s Colwood office, Sooke office,
and online. If you’re wondering whether we’d be a good fit, a great place to start is by seeing
whether any of these thoughts sound familiar to you:
“It’s so hard for me to be present. I feel like I’m always in my head.”
“I feel fine when I distract myself, but when I’m not busy the anxiety comes back.”
“I know logically that it’s fine, but I still feel worried.”
“I just want to stop feeling anxious all the time.”
“Something bad happened to me a long time ago and I am trying so hard to prevent it
from happening again.”
“I’m always replaying my interactions with other people; I feel like I can never say the
right thing.”
If you found yourself resonating with any of these, or if you have different experiences you’re
curious about, I gladly invite you to book in with me.
I’ve spent the last 10 years grounded in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) research and
applied practice, so I’m particularly passionate about working with OCD and related disorders. I
also see folks navigating a variety of other or comorbid experiences, including ADHD, autism,
and various anxiety disorders.
My strengths-based, collaborative, neurodiverse-affirming approach is typically a combination of
ACT, CBT/ERP, DBT, and IFS, depending on our pace and your needs. Together, we will learn
to approach discomfort with curiosity and flexibility rather than seeing it as something to avoid.
This can create opportunities to break free from cycles of avoidance and move toward a life that
feels more meaningful and aligned with your values.
And of course, if you’re into it, you can
expect some humour to be a part of our work together.
My hope is to show you that therapy doesn’t have to be like what you remember from childhood,
or what you’ve seen on TV (you bet I’m referring to the classic “And how does that make you
feel?” line). I am not here to tell you how you’ve experienced life; I am here to listen to your
heaviest pain, your biggest fear, your greatest success, and everything in between. I will guide
you through reflecting on your experiences, building a different relationship with your
challenges, and developing practical strategies to support your wellbeing beyond our sessions.
While I generally don’t make promises, I can confidently say that if we work together, you will
surprise yourself with how capable you are.
