Hello and welcome!
Counselling can relieve suffering, support growth, and foster healing, but finding the right therapist, one who inspires your trust and comfort, is tough. That's why I encourage you to consult a range of counsellors to get a better sense of who feels right for you.
I pride my practice on being a safe and reputable entry point for anyone new to therapy and an ethical and caring space for those discouraged by past disappointments and hoping to try again.
My counselling orientation is attachment-based, emotion-focussed, and person-centred. I leverage connection, acceptance, empathy, curiosity, creativity, (and some challenge, too) in the therapeutic process to help you achieve your personal goals.
I offer in-person, video, and telephone appointments to individuals and couples of all backgrounds from my accessible office in downtown Vancouver.
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) most extended health and benefit plans offer full or partial reimbursement for my services. Please confirm your coverage with your plan provider.
Areas of common focus include: trauma, depression, anxiety, relationships, parenting, family conflict, behavioural issues, addiction and compulsivity, chronic illness, grief, burnout, identity and self-worth, life transitions, loneliness, and the longing for greater purpose, joy, connection and meaning in life.
Outside of private practice I've devoted 10+ years to counselling roles with UBC Postgraduate Medical Education, SFU Health & Counselling Services, Surrey School District, UBC Centre for Student Involvement and Career, and the Centre for Health and Evaluation and Outcome Studies.
I hold a Masters in Counselling Psychology from UBC (MEd) with advanced training in trauma-informed group work, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Processing (AEDP).

My approach to counselling rests upon the comfortable and trusting rapport I build with my clients.
Safety in our relationship nurtures flexibility and openness to new ideas, feelings, choices, and positive change in your life.
If you are interested in getting to know me better and explore how I might be helpful to you please book a free video or telephone consultation.
With care,
Kion Tannahill
*I'm honoured to work with a variety of presenting issues but when pressed to list an area of longstanding passion and specialization my career through-line has always led me back to family of origin, trauma and recovery. My trauma-informed approach with emphasis on safety, grounding techniques, and inner-resource building, is a good fit for adult survivors of childhood abuse (physical, sexual, emotional) and neglect.
