About Katie
Kaitlyn (Katie) Butchart, CAT(C), is a Canadian Certified Athletic Therapist with a Bachelor
of Kinesiology in Athletic Therapy from the University of Manitoba. She is also a
CSEP-certified personal trainer.
Katie grew up in Steinbach, Manitoba, and moved to British Columbia in 2017 to play
volleyball for the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook. Alongside her athletic career, she
developed a strong foundation in exercise science, human movement, emergency care, and
injury prevention. She continued on to the University of Manitoba to pursue her degree and
long-time goal of becoming an Athletic Therapist.
She gained valuable experience working with high-performance athletes during her two-year
field practicum with the University of Manitoba Bisons Men’s Hockey program from
2022–2024, including extensive clinical placements. These experiences helped her develop
and learn the skills necessary to assess and treat a wide range of injuries and conditions.
Having grown up playing hockey as well, she was grateful for the opportunity to return to it
and a competitive sport environment throughout her education.
Her background allows her to assess what is injured, identify or rule out involved structures,
recognize areas of pain or weakness, and discuss contributing factors. She takes a
hands-on and individualized approach to care, with a focus on helping people feel confident
in their every-day abilities, injury management, recovery and performance.
In the clinic, her practice commonly utilizes manual therapy techniques such as massage or
myofascial release, therapeutic modalities, exercise rehabilitation, active or passive
stretching, and functional or supportive tapping, wrapping and bracing. Her goal is to actively
progress treatment that is centred on your needs, to create a supportive space where those
feel informed and involved in their recovery. She believes that patient and athlete education,
combined with an adaptable treatment plan, is a key component of successful rehabilitation.
While preparing for her national certification, Katie worked with patients from a variety of
populations managing chronic injuries and requiring post-surgical strengthening and
conditioning. She has held her Industrial First Responder certification since 2021, providing
emergency first response in sport and other active environments.
Outside of work, she loves time with her husband and family, baking and cooking new
recipes and being outdoors
