About Kajal

##Kajal Sohal MACP (Student Counsellor) Supervised by Lacey Poltorasky MA, RCC #17824, CCC #1000395 In-Person: Langley | Online Sessions: AB, BC, MB, NL, NT, NU, SK, YT Hi I’m Kajal, Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve spent a long time feeling stuck, misunderstood, or unsure whether reaching out for support will actually help. You may know that something needs to change without necessarily knowing what that change should look like — and you don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. I work with adults and preteens who may be navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism and neurodivergence, stress, self-esteem concerns, peer relationships, life transitions, and other experiences that can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself or unsure of how to move forward. My approach to counselling is gentle, affirming, and grounded in the belief that your experiences, perspectives, and goals deserve to be genuinely understood. I strive to create a space where you can feel safe to explore what is happening in your life without fear of judgement or pressure to be someone other than yourself. Therapy with me is collaborative and tailored to you. I draw from Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Experiential Therapy, and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), while incorporating culturally sensitive care. Together, we can explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, better understand your experiences, build practical resources and coping strategies, and work toward changes that feel meaningful to you. As a South Asian, Sikh, and neurodivergent counsellor, I also understand that culture, family, community, identity, and lived experience can shape the way we understand ourselves and our mental health. I welcome these parts of your experience into the counselling room and strive to provide care that respects the whole person rather than reducing you to a diagnosis or concern. I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Before beginning my counselling practicum, I spent more than seven years working in the mental health and support field as a Behavioural Interventionist and Community Support Worker with children and adults with diverse needs. These experiences have strengthened my appreciation for individualized care and for meeting each person where they are. My goal is for you to leave therapy feeling heard, validated, better equipped to understand yourself, and more confident in your ability to move forward. More Than Just My Work One of my favourite quotes comes from Mary Oliver’s Wild Geese: “You do not have to be good. / You do not have to walk on your knees / for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. / You only have to let the soft animal of your body / love what it loves.” >Areas of Focus (Individuals - Adolescents and Adults) >ADD / ADHD >Anxiety >Autism >Coping Skills >Career Transitions >Depression >Peer Relationships >Self-Esteem >Stress ###Modalities >Adlerian >Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) >Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) >Culturally Sensitive >Experiential Therapy >Narrative >Person-Centred
