About Kaitlynn

Hi, my name is Kaitlynn Fawkes (she/her), and I am a counselling intern with Island Clinical Counselling at the Duncan location. Having grown up in the Cowichan Valley, I feel deeply connected to this community and grateful for the opportunity to support the people who live here. My own experiences as a young person inspired me to pursue a career in counselling and fostered a passion for helping others navigate life's challenges. I completed a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care and am currently completing my Master of Counselling at City University. Over the past four years, I have worked alongside youth and their caregivers, providing one-on-one support throughout the Cowichan Valley. I have also supported youth and families experiencing substance use concerns and housing insecurity. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to social justice, advocacy, and creating spaces where people feel heard, respected, and supported. While I am especially passionate about working with youth and bring extensive experience in this area, I am excited to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and life stages. I value the opportunity to walk alongside people as they navigate challenges, build on their strengths, and move toward the changes that matter most to them. As someone who has experienced both sides of the counselling relationship, I understand how vulnerable it can feel to reach out for support. I have great respect for the courage it takes to begin counselling and to continue showing up for yourself throughout the process. I believe that growth often involves stepping into discomfort, and my role is to help clients navigate that process in a way that feels safe, supportive, and manageable. My approach is person-centred and relational. I believe that meaningful change happens within the context of a strong therapeutic relationship, and I strive to create a space where clients feel genuinely seen, accepted, and understood. Together, we will focus on the goals that are important to you, moving at a pace that feels right while drawing on evidence-based approaches tailored to your unique needs and experiences. My goal is to provide a counselling space that is trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and 2SLGBTQI+ allied. I recognize that safety and comfort look different for everyone, and I am committed to working collaboratively with each person to create an environment where they feel respected, empowered, and supported. Whether you are seeking support for a specific challenge or simply looking for a space to explore what is important to you, I would be honoured to be part of your journey.
