Joan (she/her) is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) who aims to create safe spaces for people to navigate their struggles, stressors, and healing journeys. She received her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology and Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
In the community, Joan has spent the past five years supporting marginalized groups and survivors of sexualized violence which has led her to complete further education in trauma-informed care.
Joan’s approach to counselling is grounded in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, which gives people the tools they need to become more aware of their present moment thoughts and feelings and helps identify how they may impact overall well-being.
Joan recognizes and values that each individual’s needs are unique and intersectional. With this view in mind, she introduces elements of other therapies into her practice to provide integrative client care through an anti-oppressive lens. While working together, Joan hopes that her clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to achieve their goals.
