About Heather

Name: Heather McPherson Title: Registered Counselling Therapist RCT-C Credentials: MA, Masters in Counselling Psychology Sometimes life gives us more than we feel ready to handle with the skills we currently have. During these moments, reaching out for support can make a meaningful difference. Therapy offers a safe space to slow down, reflect, and begin creating change that feels possible and lasting. It allows you to explore emotions and challenges with compassion while building the skills needed to move forward confidently. I use a person-centred, integrative approach that draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These evidence-based methods help clients build awareness, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with their values. Together, we focus on developing strategies that foster resilience and balance. Whether you are managing anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance use, therapy can help you grow confidence and a deeper sense of well-being. Clients can expect a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive space where honesty and curiosity guide our work. I currently offer virtual therapy sessions across Nova Scotia, making counselling accessible, private, and convenient. During each session, we explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck and identify practical steps toward growth. My goal is to help you feel seen, heard, and empowered to create meaningful change at your own pace. Experience: I bring a diverse background in mental health and substance use counselling. Having worked as a Substance Abuse Counsellor in a residential treatment program, I supported clients in recovery while addressing co-occurring challenges like trauma, anxiety, and depression. This experience strengthened my understanding of integrated care and reinforced my commitment to compassionate, evidence-based support for each client. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Through collaboration, self-discovery, and personalized strategies, my goal is to help you move forward with clarity, strength, and renewed purpose.
