About Gladys

Kari is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and youth. She is passionate about helping young people navigate life's challenges while often supporting parents and caregivers to foster healthy emotional development, resilience, and confidence. Kari helps children, adolescents, and youth who are experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural concerns, low self-esteem, trauma, family changes, friendship and social challenges, school-related stress, and the effects of difficult life experiences. She creates a warm, engaging, and supportive environment where young clients feel safe to express themselves, build coping skills, and develop lasting confidence. Her approach is developmentally appropriate and individualized to each client’s unique needs. Kari integrates evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), play-based interventions, attachment-informed approaches, and supportive psychotherapy. In addition, she will complete extensive training in play therapy and EMDRIA-approved EMDR training in September, allowing her to offer child EMDR protocols to help young people safely process trauma and other distressing experiences. Before joining Alberta Counselling Centre, Kari worked extensively in schools, children's mental health, and family support programs. She has provided counselling to children, adolescents, and families in elementary school settings, domestic violence programs, and community mental health, as well as facilitating children's groups focused on emotional regulation, self-esteem, healthy relationships, and social-emotional development. Kari believes every child has unique strengths and the capacity to grow when they feel understood, supported, and empowered. She is committed to helping young people build the skills they need to thrive at home, at school, and in their relationships.
