About Gillian

You might be here because something in your life feels heavy right now. Maybe you’re navigating a difficult relationship, feeling overwhelmed by emotions, or trying to make sense of something painful or confusing. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to face it alone. Hello, I’m Gillian (she/her), an intern counsellor currently completing my Masters in Counselling at City University. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent more than 20 years working as a mediator and restorative justice practitioner, supporting people through conflict, harm, and some of the most challenging moments in their lives. That experience continues to shape how I approach therapy today. I bring a calm, steady presence to conversations that can feel difficult to have. Whether you are navigating relationship conflict, processing past experiences, or sitting with big and complex emotions, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and truly heard. Together, we gently explore these experiences, strengthen your resilience, and move toward greater clarity, connection, and self-understanding. My approach to counselling is collaborative and guided by what matters most to you. Grounded in trauma-informed care, I take an integrative approach, drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities, including: • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) • Gottman Method • Polyvagal Theory • Internal Family Systems (IFS) • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) • Somatic Approaches • Strengths-Based Approaches • Attachment-Informed Therapy • Mindfulness and Mindful Self-Compassion • Play Therapy • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) • Response-Based Practice I work with individuals, couples, and families who are navigating challenges such as: Relationships and communication Improving connection, resolving conflict, rebuilding trust, and strengthening romantic, family, or blended family relationships. Difficult emotions and past experiences Processing anxiety, grief, shame, relational trauma, or experiences that continue to shape how you see yourself and others. Life transitions and stress Adjusting to major life changes such as career shifts, returning to school, parenting challenges, or periods of uncertainty that feel overwhelming. Patterns in relationships and attachment Recognizing recurring dynamics in your relationships and building healthier, more secure connections. Self-growth and resilience Building self-esteem, cultivating self-compassion, improving emotional regulation, and living in alignment with your values. Meaning, purpose, and spiritual exploration Exploring questions of meaning, values, and purpose, and integrating your own sources of wisdom, spirituality, or connection into your healing and growth. Wherever you find yourself right now, you don’t have to face it alone, and I would be honored to support you on your journey. Outside of counselling, I’m a partner and parent in a blended family. I love spending time in nature and try to live a life that balances learning, loving, movement, and mindfulness.
