What were you doing before pursuing RMT?
Before pursuing massage therapy, I spent 5 years coaching artistic gymnastics after having done gymnastics for 12 years myself. I’ve spent this time coaching kids between the ages of 1-16, teaching foundational gymnastics skills, bodily awareness, and the importance of moving the body in a fun, safe, way!
Why do you want to be an RMT?
I chose to pursue massage because being an athlete that’s experienced my own fair share of injuries has shown me the immense value of rehabilitation, and fostered a passion for movement that ultimately led me here! The idea of having a direct impact on the improvement of someone’s life through one-on-one care is incredibly rewarding, and having the ability to enhance the joy of movement in others has always been very meaningful for me.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school?
Outside of the classroom/workplace, I can often be found upside down in the gymnastics gym. I find a lot of joy from activity and reaching new limits in what the body can do! When it comes to relaxation, I enjoy crocheting with a good TV show in the background. Whether I’m making a sweater for myself (or for one of my beloved cats,) it’s a great way for myself to unwind and express creativity.
What is your favourite thing about VCMT?
Besides the fruit bowl, my favourite thing about VCMT is the atmosphere created between students and staff. It truly makes such an intensive program a million times easier. The highlight of my school day is always walking along the ocean with my classmates on break, spotting seals and sea critters, and chatting about life! The community here is excellent and definitely makes for a more enjoyable experience.
