My name is Gabriela Fonseca. Originally from Managua, Nicaragua, I was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and recently made the move to Halifax, Nova Scotia, drawn by my love of the ocean and the beauty of coastal living.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Canadian Mennonite University and a Master of Arts in Counselling degree from Providence Theological Seminary. My counselling journey began in 2011 when I started working as a counsellor at a women’s health clinic in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This experience sparked a deep passion for supporting women through some of the most personal and meaningful decisions and transitions of their lives. Over the past 15 years, I have worked extensively in women’s health, including supporting individuals through reproductive health decisions, and infertility. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the complexity and deeply personal nature of reproductive and women’s health experiences.
In 2021, I began my private practice, where I support individuals who are navigating challenges with self-esteem, identity, assertiveness in relationships, and emotional boundaries with family members and romantic partners. I particularly enjoy helping clients better understand themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that may be keeping them feeling stuck.
For five years, I have also worked with Child And Family Services as a counsellor supporting individuals experiencing a broad range of challenges, including trauma, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), schizophrenia, depression, and anxiety. This experience has given me the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds and with complex and varied life experiences.
Across all areas of my work, I bring a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach. I believe counselling should be a space where you can feel safe to be yourself, explore your experiences honestly, and develop a deeper understanding of who you are and what you need. My goal is to meet you where you are and support you in creating meaningful change that feels authentic to you.
