About Joseph

I believe that every person has the intrinsic knowledge and capacity to determine what is best for themselves. My role is to provide guidance and support, helping clients understand how their values and internal experiences influence their actions. Progress is measured by the extent to which clients feel they are achieving their personal goals, experiencing greater life satisfaction, and making meaningful changes that enhance their overall well-being. I work primarily from a cognitive behavioral orientation, incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help enhance my clients' motivation for change and support their personal growth. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UBC Okanagan where my research focus was on the problematic, recreational, and therapeutic use of substances. My predoctoral residency was at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), with rotations in the Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) Service and the Borderline Personality Disorders (BPD) Clinic. I am currently completing a postdoctoral fellowship at CAMH, working on a trial assessing the efficacy of ACT group therapy in the treatment of methamphetamine use disorder.
