About Charmaine

CHARMAINE HUNTER-EDWARDS, MSW, RSW (SHE/HER) MODALITIES USED: Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), Cognitive Behavioural (CBT); Narrative; and Solutions-Focused Therapy Charmaine Hunter-Edwards is a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from Dalhousie University. She brings over 20 years of experience working with youth, families, and communities, supporting individuals navigating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance use, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and a wide range of trauma. Her work includes supporting those impacted by sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence, and family conflict, among other complex life challenges. Charmaine practices from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed lens, recognizing how systems shape intersectionality and lived experience. She prioritizes building strong therapeutic relationships by creating a safe and brave space grounded in trust, collaboration, honesty, and healing. Charmaine also draws on her lived experiences as a mother, partner, daughter, sister, and friend to inform her work. With a background as a frontline worker, she has a deep understanding of how vicarious trauma can affect both personal and professional lives. What a Session With Charmaine Looks Like: The initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. You are invited to share whatever feels comfortable, and I will do the same, with the goal of beginning to build rapport. As our work continues, areas of concern are identified collaboratively, and sessions are guided by your needs in the moment and what you hope to gain from the process. Sessions may be self-directed or gently guided. For some, having clear goals is important; for others, sessions unfold more organically, with needs evolving over time. Reflective journaling may be used as a tool to explore patterns and themes. Above all, creating a safe and brave space where you can openly express your thoughts, feelings, fears, and concerns is essential. Feeling seen, heard, and validated is central to the work, especially as you continue to care for and support others.
