About Brandon

Brandon Nabrotzky (he/him) is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with over 10 years of experience in teaching and mental health. He has lived in several countries around the world and is passionate about other languages, cultures, and peoples. He is warm, caring, and engaging. His naturally compassionate and empathetic nature helps his clients to feel not only at ease but also seen, heard, and empowered. He is dedicated to creating and maintaining a therapeutic space that is judgement-free and forward-facing. Philosophy Brandon believes strongly in the personal empowerment of his clients. He helps them find, recognize, and tap into their personal strengths and potentials. He also emphasizes the internalization of locus of control. In his sessions, Brandon aims for greater clarity and compassion regarding the judgments and expectations we have of ourselves and of others. He believes that the goal of therapy is to provide clients with the tools needed to navigate their unique challenges with not only competence but confidence. This approach fosters and encourages self-esteem, self-awareness, self-reflection, and self-assurance. Therapeutic Approach Brandon is eclectic in his therapeutic approach. He uses methods from multiple modalities based on their appropriate fit and the individual needs of the client. His educational training was based in the psychoanalytic/psychotherapeutic tradition, but he is also familiar with other modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). He endeavours to adapt his approach to the personality of the client, and the unique challenges each client wishes to explore in-session. With that said, his personal affinities tend more towards humanistic (client-centred) and hermeneutic (interpretive, symbolic, or meaning-making) traditions. Brandon is comfortable incorporating spirituality and/or dreamwork in his therapeutic practice. Focus Areas While comfortable with a range of mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and psychological concerns, Brandon’s personal affinity tends more towards human relationships. He understands not only relationships held with others (family, friends, romantic partners, coworkers, etc.) but also the relationship one holds with oneself. Identity cohesion is of particular interest to him; especially cohesion between religious and sexual identities or competing cultural identities. Brandon believes the family to be the primal, central social unit, and is passionate about defending, preserving, and advocating for relationships found therein.
