About Betty

As a young girl, Betty remembers leafing through her grandfather’s medicinal books with great interest, marking the start of her introduction into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In what would become her lifelong passion, a young Betty Bai went on to enroll at the world-renowned Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China where she achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Acupuncture and Tui-Na massage, further pursuing graduate studies in Acupuncture. As one of the top five TCM universities in China and the oldest established TCM university, the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine provided the perfect environment for Betty to practice her skills under the careful tutelage of many knowledgeable and experienced practitioners. Post-graduation, she taught and practiced TCM in various parts of Asia including Hong Kong, Malaysia and China for 10 years. Betty enjoys the simple life – being able to care for her family and doing what she loves. In pursuit of this, she immigrated to Vancouver, Canada with her family in 2000 where she once again began to practice in her field soon after arriving. In 2002, she opened her own clinic in Coquitlaim. As of 2016, Betty has been practicing Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Canada for the last 16 years. Betty’s Acupuncture and Wellness Center is located on Austin Avenue, Coquitlam. Here, she treats numerous patients and their ailments as well as helping them to understand and participate in their own healing. She strives to help people in the Lower mainland recognize the value and benefits of Chinese Medicine. As an immigrant, a health practitioner, a business owner, a wife and a mother, Betty’s many roles have granted her much insight and instilled in her a deep appreciation of the interplay between a person’s physiology, psychology, socio-cultural make-up, family background, personality, and health and illnesses. She strives to understand each and every patient as an individual, while remembering that deciphering the patient’s health condition is as much a science as it is an art. Healing comes from the balance and harmony of the human body, as well as harmony within one’s environment. Betty believes in the philosophy of “time specific, place specific, person specific” treatment approach that sees each person’s illness as a result of their unique background and circumstances. In order to help a patient recover, the root of the problem needs to be understood and treated so that balance in the body is restored. Betty believes TCM can help people in a way that promotes healthy and natural living. Betty is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. She continues to invest time in her own growth as a TCM practitioner through reading, networking with other health professionals, and attending conferences on Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Betty is a Registered Acupuncturist and a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncture of British Columbia.

After 3 years of shoulder pain, Betty saved me from my agony after 3 sessions. I wish I hadn't suffered for 3 years, and I've never considered acupuncture as a treatment. Before doing any surgery for relief from pain, I strongly recommend getting acupuncture as an alternative before going under a knife.

I have always had a deep-seated fear of acupuncture. Even though my brother experienced a miraculous recovery from potential paralysis thanks to this treatment, the thought of having needles inserted all over my body was daunting. The mere idea that a slight movement could lead to significant pain was terrifying. While I don’t mind needles for blood draws, the thought of being immobilized by a stranger with needles is unsettling. However, when my frozen shoulder and other ailments worsened, I decided to confront my fears. I dedicated time to researching acupuncturists throughout British Columbia, willing to travel an hour if it meant finding the right one. That’s when I found Betty, and I couldn’t be more thankful. Betty is truly exceptional. She embodies professionalism, diligence, and a keen awareness of her patients' needs. I appreciate her respect for my boundaries, especially since I’m comfortable with heat therapy but hesitant about cupping and electrical treatments. Her expertise yields real results, and her pricing is both fair and reasonable. Betty is genuine, and I trust her completely. I wholeheartedly recommend Betty's Acupuncture to everyone. I can’t sing her praises enough. If you’re considering acupuncture, whether you’re a first-timer, feeling apprehensive, or searching for a new clinic, you simply can’t go wrong with Betty. She is undoubtedly the best acupuncturist in BC.

I have been meaning to leave dr. Betty since we first met a few months ago. I started seeing her because of an ICBC claim and will definitely come back in the future. She has decades of experience and is very kind and knowledgeable and helpful. It's hard to find a good acupuncturist, who does the needles properly. She definitely does this and goes above and beyond with herbal medicines and some electricity therapy as well! Extremely professional and highly recommend

My wife and I have been seeing Betty since 2009. We totally trust her and only have good things to say about her. We had tried different Chinese medicine doctors in lower mainland until we found Betty and stayed with her since then. She is very professional, patient and caring. Betty spends sufficient time on understanding your situation and develops customized treatment plan that fits you. Betty is our only recommendation if we are ever asked by our relatives, friends and coworkers for good Chinese medicine doctors!

Absolutely LOVE Betty and her homey little shop! She was so kind hearted, and was absolutely fabulous during my first experience with acupuncture and cupping. Would definitely recommend her to any people afraid to try acupuncture, or just to anyone interested in a great acupuncture or cupping session! Will definitely be returning, it was love at first poke :)

I have been to Betty for the past several years. I live in Vancouver and she is out of my area but I make a point to go to her instead of locally. I will tell you that I feel so amazing when I leave Betty's clinic. My energy level comes back up. She is also a very kind and thoughtful person and I highly recommend her treatments. Carole
