About Ashwin
I bring twenty-eight years of clinical experience to Sitka Physio & Wellness, including sixteen years as owner and lead physiotherapist of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinic in Edmonton. I hold a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from India and a Master of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia, and I'm a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). I also spent six years as a clinical educator with the University of Alberta's physiotherapy program, supervising students on clinical placement.
My clinical focus is on complex and persistent presentations: chronic pain, post-concussion and vestibular disorders, temporomandibular disorders, and hypermobility spectrum conditions, along with recoveries that have stalled elsewhere. I like to start with a thorough history and get a full picture of what's going on before building a plan, combining manual therapy, medical acupuncture and IMS, and graded exercise around each person's goals. I'm also completing a Doctor of Science exploring mitochondrial function, metabolism and fatigue in recovery, which has deepened my understanding of why some patients don't recover as expected and how looking beyond the immediate injury can help.
My focus has always been the person, not just the problem, helping each patient get back to what they love while feeling like the best version of themselves.
Outside the clinic, I enjoy hiking, spending time in nature, discovering Vancouver's coffee shops, and exploring everything the city has to offer.
