About Ashmi

Ashmi is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) Training/Work Experience: Ashmi Sharma, MSW, RSW, is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto and earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Wilfrid Laurier University. Ashmi has experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and couples experiencing a wide range of mental health and relationship concerns. Outside of MindFit, Ashmi works in the Shoniker Clinic at the Scarborough Health Network. As a South Asian therapist, she brings a culturally responsive lens to her work and understands the impact that culture, family expectations, and intergenerational experiences can have on emotional well-being, relationships, and identity. Presenting Concerns: Ashmi works with individuals, children, adolescents, and couples experiencing a variety of concerns, including: • Anxiety • Stress and burnout • Depression and low mood • Self-esteem challenges • Family conflict • Relationship concerns • Communication difficulties • Identity concerns • Grief and loss • Life transitions • Emotional regulation challenges • Trauma-related concerns • Personal growth and resilience Approach: Ashmi takes a compassionate, collaborative, and member-centred approach to therapy. She strives to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. Her work is informed by evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, attachment-focused practices, and the Gottman Method for couples therapy. “Workouts” (therapy) is tailored to each member’s unique needs, with a focus on building practical coping strategies, strengthening emotional regulation, improving relationships, and fostering meaningful, lasting change. She is passionate about helping couples build stronger, more connected relationships. Drawing on principles from the Gottman Method, she helps partners recognize unhelpful patterns, communicate more effectively, navigate conflict, and deepen emotional and physical intimacy. She provides a balanced, non-judgmental space where both partners feel heard while developing practical strategies to repair disconnection, rebuild trust, and work toward shared relationship goals. Outside of the Practice: Outside of the practice, Ashmi enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new pizza restaurants and cafés, staying active, and continuing to learn through professional development and personal growth. 5 Fun Facts: • Ashmi loves Bollywood dancing. • She is a big movie fan and love watching new films. • She is on a mission to try every pizza spot in Toronto. • She comes from a huge family with over 40 cousins. • Her family is from Guyana, and she loves Caribbean culture.
