About Alyssa

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (OT) (UBC, 2005), Alyssa obtained a Masters’s Degree in Rehabilitation (UBC, 2008). She has extensive experience as an OT in pediatric feeding, children with Developmental Coordination Disorder and the [CO-OP approach](https://icancoop.org/pages/the-co-op-approach). She is an internationally board-certified lactation consultant, a trained perinatal mental health provider, and an [NDC-accredited practitioner](https://possumsonline.com/ndc-practitioners). She has held numerous volunteer and paid opportunities and seeks formal supervision and ongoing professional development. She has presented at national and international conferences on the role of occupational therapy in perinatal health and lactation consulting and has contributed to published literature. Connect on [LinkedIn](https://ca.linkedin.com/in/alyssa-barrie-649a559) Alyssa recognizes that parents navigate shifts in roles and occupations and may face unexpected changes to their well-being during this transition and life stage. How you feel while doing your daily occupations matters. She believes new parents thrive with connection, community and practical hands-on assistance. Needing help during this stage of life is expected; it doesn’t mean you are failing as a parent. It’s about getting the support you need when it gets tough and acknowledging that all parents are learning as we go. You do not need to do this alone; by reaching out to others and resources, you can discover strategies to experiment with for you and your family to live well. Alyssa is passionate about offering occupational therapy services for parents and children for various challenges (feeding difficulties, mental health, executive functioning, and difficulty participating in your chosen daily occupations). Alyssa is an active volunteer with youth sports. With three kiddos at home, she does a lot of chauffeuring around the North Shore, and therefore she thoroughly enjoys time outdoors with friends and her family. Alyssa is thrilled to work at Canopy alongside a team of providers, as there is an opportunity for collaboration and continuity of care between your health providers.
