About Surman
Hello! I’m a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology student currently completing my psychotherapy
internship. I bring 7+ years of experience supporting children and youth in live-in and day treatment
mental health settings, where I have worked closely with individuals navigating anxiety, depression,
suicidal ideation, and self-harm.
My background as a frontline worker in community mental health has provided me with strong skills in
crisis intervention, safety planning, and facilitating therapeutic skills groups, including Dialectical
Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I approach therapy with warmth, empathy, and a strong commitment to
creating a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space. My work is grounded in building genuine, trusting
relationships where clients feel safe to express themselves openly. As a child of immigrants, I bring a
personal understanding of navigating cultural identity, family expectations, and systemic barriers, which further informs my commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive care.
As I continue to grow in my clinical practice, I am committed to learning alongside my clients and
providing thoughtful, compassionate care that meets each person where they are.
