About Sheri
Thank you for having the courage to check out my page. You are probably wondering who I am, if my approach aligns with needs and vision of therapy.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012. Early on in my nursing career I specialized in nephrology. While I loved this nursing and the medical complexity, what became apart is psychological struggles that coexist with chronic disease. I shifted my nursing career to mental health in 2015 an have not looked back. I have worked with clients of all ages from mild to severe mental illness in a variety of roles. This inspired me to further my education and begin my Masters of Counselling Psychology.
Having worked through a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) lens for many years in healthcare, I wanted to learn more about the different types of trauma treatment. My interest in EMDR grew, and I was excited for the opportunity to take EMDRIA approved training. EMDR is different from traditional therapy in that it helps find and process the root cause of a persons distress. While it was initially discovered and proven to be an effective treatment for PTSD and trauma, it can also help people with a variety of other psychological distress from performance anxiety, public speaking, anxiety, eating disorders, depression and much more.
As you search for a counsellor that is the right fit, I want to highlight some of the intersectional identities that I have. I am cisgendered (She/Her) and a First Nations woman from the Stó:lō Nation. I celebrate and encourage diversity, and welcome members of the LGBTQIA2S communities.
