About Michael

Mike graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2006 with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Immediately upon graduation, he was accepted into McMaster University's Physiotherapy program where he graduated with a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy in 2008. Mike's passion for learning has led him to take multiple courses in advanced manual therapy techniques, acupuncture, running injuries, low back injuries, functional movement, pain management, and shoulder injuries. He has had the opportunity to treat people of all activity levels and ages from weekend warriors to elite athletes. He has mentored physiotherapists across Ontario as well as worked on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Physiotherapy Association for 4 years. Recently, Mike was a member of the Pan Am/Para Pan Am Games Medical Services Expert Provider Group where he represented Physiotherapists in planning the medical services provided during the games. Mike has also had the opportunity to work side by side with orthopaedic surgeons. This opportunity has led to him working with many people following complex and traumatic injuries. Mike also works in a consultant role consulting on over 1,000 physiotherapy cases nationally. This has given him a a lot of insight into what Physiotherapy looks like across Canada. Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, Mike served in the reserves for 9 years as a member of the Artillery in the Canadian Armed Forces. In his spare time, Mike loves to play hockey, stay active, do anything outdoors, and spend time with his family. He also enjoys coaching local athletes to help improve their performance through MeFit, a local not-for-profit organization.

I went to strive physiotherapy for treatment of vertigo. Michael thoroughly explained the condition. He discussed the treatment plan with me and taught me some exercises, which I could continue to do at home. i was impressed with the way everyone made me feel at ease, while being both friendly and professional. The way that they make your appointments and treatment easy to remember through videos of the required exercises and reminders is impressive.I highly reccomend strive to everyone who needs the treatment offered.

Instead of treating me like a wacky senior citizen who should be grateful to be walking, Mike Major listened to my desire to get back to playing pickleball and started me on an exercise program for my knee to enable me to do just that! This is the reason I sought out a physio for sports related injuries. I went from extreme knee pain to back on the court in just six short weeks. Thx Mike.

The simple fact is this: I believe wholeheartedly that Michael Major saved my life. I am certain of this because if I hadn't looked him up and read his impressive credentials and not booked an assessment with him...well I honestly dread to think of the outcome. I broke my ankle August 27, 2016 and I was healing nicely according to the fracture clinic at Grand River. They had recommended I get physio for the swelling that I had. I just couldn't believe how swollen my leg and foot was but trusted it was part of the healing. I had an ultrasound back when I first broke my ankle 3 days after to re-check the break and for a blood clot as I had travelled from Nashville where I broke it, but the ultrasound was clear. Fast forward to week 10 and still I can't get over the massive swelling throughout my leg and foot. Can't walk on it and just couldn't understand ....I re- read Michael's bio and I was impressed and booked for a physio consult online. When I met him and discussed my history, Michael took one look at my leg and foot with the boot cast off and said he would not work on my leg/physio until I went immediatley to Emergency at the hospital to check for a blood clot. He was so kind and calm about it and just wanted to make sure as he wasn't confident I was "clot-free" . Better to check and then please call him with the results and then we can start. I did call later that day after going straight to Emerge to let him know that yes I did have a blood clot in my upper inner thigh and was getting shots of hepparin in my stomach and warfarin meds and bloodwork until my blood was thin enough to help rid the clot etc. 10 Days of Deep Vein Thrombosis therapy at St. Marys (who were equally wonderful and concerned) and finally I am able to transition to my doctor. As soon as I get the go ahead for physio as yes the swelling has come down but I have a road to go I will definitely be booking with Michael and his team. First impressions are everything and in this case lifesaving. I can't thank him enough short of bragging and telling everyone he is your guy should you need physiotherapy. With Gratitude, Karen Newbrough
