About Martha

For more than six years, Martha has supported families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and loss, attending over 220 births. She completed her initial doula training through MotherWit and is certified through Wise Women Way of Birth, with continued education and experience in pregnancy and infant loss, postpartum care, lactation, and prenatal education. For the past several years, she has also worked as a prenatal educator, offering both group and private sessions, and has completed a lactation-focused doula mentorship alongside a local lactation consultant. Martha's work includes prenatal education, support in developing birth intentions, birth and postpartum preparation, birth doula care, pregnancy and infant loss support, in-home postpartum doula care, and lactation and infant-feeding support. Alongside her birth work, she is currently pursuing her education in social work, continuing to deepen the knowledge and perspective she brings to supporting individuals and families. Martha's approach is grounded in the belief that knowledge can be incredibly empowering. She is passionate about making evidence-based information approachable and creating a space where families feel comfortable asking questions, talking openly about difficult or intimate topics, and understanding their options so they can make decisions that feel right for them. She has a particular passion for supporting families through pregnancy and infant loss, including creating space for experiences that are still too often surrounded by silence or stigma. Her personality is very much a part of her work—you can expect open and honest conversations, non-judgemental support, warmth, and usually some good laughs along the way. After many years of working with families throughout Vancouver, she now calls Bowen Island home and is grateful to offer this support within the Bowen community. Alongside her birth work, she also offers birth, newborn, and family photography, documenting families through these seasons in another way she loves. When she isn’t supporting families or behind the camera, she can usually be found at a farmers market, moving her body with friends, or exploring Bowen’s trails with her two bully breed pups.
