About Marissa
Marissa is dedicated to supporting individuals in rediscovering their inner strength and wisdom, as they work toward meaningful change. She believes that people often have the answers to many of life’s challenges within, and that her role as a therapist is to help guide in accessing that knowledge. Utilizing a collaborative and non-judgmental approach, Marissa creates a welcoming space where clients feel safe to explore their emotions and take steps toward personal growth and healing.
With experience working with both children and adults in multiple psychology research labs at the University of Alberta, Marissa brings a strong academic and practical foundation to her practice. Her background also includes volunteering on the SACE crisis line, where she received training in supporting individuals navigating sexual trauma. These experiences have given Marissa a deep understanding of the complexities people face, allowing her to approach clients with both experience and compassion.
Using a blend of therapeutic modalities, Marissa tailors her sessions to meet the unique needs of each client. She draws from cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and person-centered strategies, among others. She also integrates biopsychosocial awareness into her practice, acknowledging the many factors that influence individual well-being.
Marissa seeks to not only manage symptoms, but also to address the root causes of her clients’ challenges. She is comfortable integrating elements of spirituality into session, for those who feel that it is an important aspect of their healing process. Marissa strives to create a space that honors all parts of client experience, tailoring the work to reflect what’s most meaningful to them.
Marissa’s sessions are relaxed and approachable, offering a comfortable space for clients to open up, especially those who may feel anxious about starting therapy. Clients often appreciate her ability to balance therapeutic intervention with a sense of humor and creativity, helping them feel at ease while working toward their goals.
Outside of her practice, Marissa enjoys photography, spending time in nature, and weight training. She shares her life with her furry best friend, a playful corgi mix named Spruce, and together they love going on adventures and exploring the outdoors.
