About Karl

Where are you from? Montreal, Quebec What were you doing before pursuing RMT? I have a previous degree in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University, and I’ve spent the last few years working as a full-time tattoo artist and illustrator. Why do you want to be an RMT? I’ve always prioritized working manually, creatively, and in a connective capacity with people. Everyday, massage therapy feels more and more like a unique blend of these professional goals I have for myself. Working as a tattoo artist planted the seed for me to realize how much I enjoy helping people feel good and empowered in their bodies, and I know being an RMT will allow that seed to flourish in a very concrete way. Some areas I’m interested in learning more about through my internship include: systemic treatment, chronic pain management, palliative care, and pregnancy massage. How do you like to spend your time outside of work/school? My perfect day starts early with a massive breakfast before heading out for a bike ride in the sun, hiking in the woods, or swimming (or all of the above?). At the end of the day, you can find me back home and cozy, unwinding either with some drawing, music-making, reading or writing. What is your favourite thing about VCMT? I know everyone says this but – my cohort. We’re all very close and supportive of one another, and I’m very lucky to be learning and growing alongside such amazing people. I’ll add that I’ve also really been enjoying all the anatomical curriculum so far. Do you speak any languages other than English fluently? If so, which ones? I am fluent in French, nearly fluent in Italian, and currently working on leveling up my Spanish.
