I have been going to Firefly on and off for about 3 years now. I’ve been with a few different therapists, for different reasons and have had wonderful experiences with all of them. This facility provides a very private, safe and comforting environment. You can tell they truly care about their clients. They share excellent tools and give very well thought out advice and treatments. I’ve had a very trying past couple years and I owe it to the team at Firefly for helping me piece my life and myself back together. If you’re thinking about where to go for therapy, this is the place. If I could give them 10 stars, I would.

When I moved to Edmonton, finding a new psychologist felt overwhelming. I specifically needed someone experienced in working with first responders and PTSD, so I wouldn’t have to spend sessions explaining the realities of the job. After extensive research, I found Karin Lord — and I’m so glad I did. She is highly skilled in EMDR, which was instrumental in helping me work through my PTSD. Her direct, honest approach to counseling aligned perfectly with my personality and made the process both effective and comfortable. I highly recommend her.

I, alongside my family, have had two sessions with Firefly Counselling and Consulting - specifically with Karin Lord. The sessions have been about a year plus apart. Our sessions were “family” sessions, and we were seeking support for our toddler. During our second session , which will be our last. We were just under 10 minutes late. I have been to therapy for a good chunk of my adult years, so I had no expectation for our session to run any longer than the allotted time. The session did not have any structure whatsoever, no treatment plan discussion, nothing. During said session, I found Karin to be dismissive as we attempted to share details we were seeking support about. Nonetheless I carried on, her advice to us was that we were dealing with anxiety in our child, (she made a his determination after 10minutes of observation, mind you my child does not know her and therefore was visibly apprehensive to participate) She provided some tips based on her “observations”. Fast forward to the end of the session, she mentions very casually in the middle of an active discussion - something along the lines of “the session is now over, I have to move on.” Mind you, we have been dealing with our “anxious” kid as she diagnosed during her this session, and after her statement, she continues to speak about her observations of his behaviour, and I continue to respond to her statements. We continue to engage back and forth. Soon after, she cuts me off and, in a very rude and short tone, says I have to move onto another client now, our time is over, book another session. We then begin to redirect our toddler, who is still actively engaging in play and is having a difficult time abruptly stopping. Her method of ending that session was completely counterproductive and counterintuitive and ended up making even me, as the parent, uncomfortable, and it made it very challenging to direct my child. I won’t be going back; it was not a supportive space, and as a clinician I felt her method of managing the appointment and communicating was terrible. Her approach came off as very performative and disingenuous. I found myself at home feeling defeated after that session, no plan on where we started to where we hoped to get to. Counselling shouldn’t leave you feeling just as hopeless and even worse more lost, but thats how I left feeling.

I have known Karin for many years, and she has been tremendously helpful in my journey to wholeness. She exudes warmth, openness, and acceptance personally and professionally. She is a knowledgeable and skilled practitioner who meets people where they are at and supports with compassion and professionalism.

Had my first hypnosis ever today with Stephanie. She made me feel, warm and safe and I feel we had a wonderful session and gave me some of the confirmation breakthrough that I was hoping for. I love how direct and logical she can be with me, and it is really appreciated. She is firm in her guidelines about what is to happen and explained the journey and "homework" I needed to do, to aid her in helping me. Absolutely recommend, and as a bonus, they have the 2 dogs in site that greet you as you come in, and walk you out when it's time to go

Administration and policies do not align with providing support for people in distress. My daughters appointment was cancelled due to a credit card expired on file. Her Dad tried calling four times, no answer to update credit card expiration and rebook appointment. I tried and got through, but reception would not reinstate appointment without credit card on file. They offered for the Manager to call me, I said I would like that. No call back. We have been in good standing clients for more than two years. Her father is primary, so his card needs to be on file. If her therapist wasnt amazing, I would not support cold approach to mental health.

This brilliant group of people have literally saved my life. Firefly’s team of councillors are kind, understanding and supportive. They make me feel safe. I have learned so much about myself while working with Kris. He listens to me and when he was unavailable he ensured that one of the other councillors was able to help me if I needed. The team is very friendly when you see them in the waiting room. The therapy rooms are clean and comfortable. The dog greeters are lovely. Thank you Firefly for helping me in my journey. I highly recommend this group of psychologists. They use a variety of tools and techniques to best help you achieve your goals.

Not only are all the therapist kind and greet you. The place is so calming. I truly had a difficult case. Karen the first time I met her didn’t give up on me. I have been to multiple therapist, and Karen is kind but gives great attention and therapy. It’s crazy how Karen will remember things about sessions from years ago that I didn’t . Or she will re read sessions from a year back before, this just shows the care she puts into her clients. I have now seen Karen for over 6 years and I don’t think I’ll ever stop. At first the sessions were personal for myself but now I go with my husband! She has seen me grow, and not only me but my relationship. We even go just to update her on our lives and most of the time it’s full of laughter. Plus all the pups there are adorable and really help. I’m not sure where I’d be without Karen because of my diagnosis, but she truly changed my life.

Firefly counselling and consulting have been there for me for the past Seven years. I do not think that I would be here today without this service. Karin Lord is the owner of Firefly as well as my psychologist. While Karin has a wide variety of knowledge and technique in the field of psychology, her primary focus is working with First Responders, Preschool and Adult victims of Trauma. Together we have overcome many hurdles in my struggle with severe social anxiety and PTSD from childhood trauma. Karin has provided a safe space to heal and discover who I truly am. While working with Karin, I realized that I fit the criteria for Autism. She went above and beyond expectations and helped me through the process of Autism assessment. For someone who has felt misunderstood her whole life, it was one of her best experiences to feel seen. It has been life-changing. Whether you are a first responder, a parent of a child or a person seeking guidance in mental health, I highly recommend Karin Lord or anyone she has hired to work at Firefly.
