“Had a phone appointment this morning at 9 AM that I took from the car because I needed to drive to work and the doctor would not continue the phone call as she was uncomfortable asking me questions while I drive and proceeded to send an email saying I no showed. I have waited three months for this appointment and I found this behaviour to be unacceptable. It is one thing to be uncomfortable on the phone while I drive. It is another to blame me for the appointment not going forward when I was there 15 minutes early and simply needed to get to work. . This is an appointment that is scheduled on the patients behalf. I did not get to pick the day and time and I’m very upset about the entire situation. previously, when I did try to reschedule an appointment in February, I also found that the staff who I called was very rude about the situation as I once again was trying to get to work during the appointment time which got changed from 9 AM to 1 PM in the middle of the workday without my permission . Overall, I just don’t think patients get the respect they deserve from the staff at this hospital.”Read moreShow less

“I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at Women’s College Hospital following my surgery with Dr. Bougie and her incredible team. From the very beginning, I felt genuinely cared for, understood, and supported. Dr. Bougie and her team were exceptionally understanding, compassionate, and empathetic during what can be such a vulnerable and stressful time. A very special thank you to the post-surgical nursing team — especially Grace and Ashley and Alex(?-im so sorry that can’t remember) — who were absolutely exceptional during my recovery. Their kindness, patience, and grace made such a difference in my experience. They treated me with warmth, dignity, and genuine care, always taking the time to make sure I felt comfortable, heard, and reassured, provided insight and coaching on next steps. The level of compassion and professionalism I experienced at Women’s College Hospital was outstanding. Recovery can feel overwhelming, but this team made me feel supported every step of the way. I am incredibly grateful for the care I received and will never forget the kindness shown to me.”Read moreShow less

“I’m writing this not as a routine review, but as a sincere expression of my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care I received at WCH Hospital. From the moment I walked in, every single professional I encountered — the receptionist, the nurses, the anaesthetist, and especially Dr. Ethan Grober — treated me with a level of compassion, patience, and professionalism that truly stood out. A surgery can be performed in many places, but the experience surrounding it — the reassurance, the warmth, the human connection — is what makes all the difference. This was my first surgery, and naturally I was anxious. My wife also had many questions, and every concern she raised was addressed with patience, clarity, and genuine care. Not once did we feel rushed or dismissed. Instead, we felt supported, informed, and comforted at every step. What impressed me most was how seamlessly the entire team worked together. The receptionist made the initial process smooth and calming. The nurses were attentive, gentle, and reassuring. The anaesthetist explained everything with clarity, helping ease my nerves. And Dr. Ethan Grober — with his calm confidence, kindness, and expertise — made me feel safe and cared for in a moment that could have easily been overwhelming. The hospitality and comfort provided before the procedure were exceptional. It wasn’t just medical care — it was human care. And that is something I will always remember and appreciate. To Dr. Ethan Grober and the entire WCH Hospital team: thank you for taking such extraordinary care of me. Your professionalism, empathy, and dedication made a world of difference to me and my family. I am truly grateful.”Read moreShow less

“From the administration staff through to anesthesiology and to Dr Urbach's surgical team, everyone was professional and caring. I waited five weeks for an appointment at the hernia clinic, then six weeks for inguinal hernia repair surgery. That is pretty quick. At every step, I was given excellent information about what was happening and what to expect. I am very happy that WCH was there for me.”Read moreShow less

“Yesterday, I visited the WCH at 76 Grenville Street for a dermatologist appointment, but I left feeling more frustrated than ever. Over the past few months, painful, sometimes large pimples have appeared on my skin, and I have been seeking answers. I even asked my family doctor for tests to find the cause, but they never happened. As Black immigrants and people of colour, we must stand up for ourselves in healthcare. We need to insist on being heard, share our health histories confidently, and ask if treatments meant for others will work for us—especially questioning if those patients were also Black. Healthcare providers often rush through appointments, but we deserve respect and attentive care. Before the doctor arrived, a woman entered, likely to review my history. As I explained my concerns, she repeatedly interrupted me rudely and dismissed my worries. I asked her to stop, but she continued, and I didn't even catch her name. She was dressed simply in black pants and a light blue blouse, and wore a headwrap common among Muslim women. When the doctor finally arrived and asked if I had more questions, I did, yet I sensed the woman had already made up her mind about the next steps. I took the products they offered (see picture), but without understanding the root cause of my skin issues, these may only be temporary fixes. I might need to find another place for more personalized support. To my friends: we must speak up for ourselves—no one else will do it for us.”Read moreShow less

“The volunteers at the front were extremely nice! So was the lady at the check in on the fifth floor. Then I met Dr Sheila Wang after waiting two months and was met with these questions and comments: 1) why are you even here 2) the system is broken, this isn't the point of our clinic you should be referred to your family doctor 3) people have to wait months to come here, but then you come in for something that's almost healed (I was referred, and her department accepted the referral), 4) of course, compression socks are good, why do you think they are covered by most health coverage. I've never felt so unwelcome with a doctor, I feel like I was in a bad episode of the pitt. She essentially just brushed me off, lectured me for having at home nursing visits, and told me to come back in three months. I was booked for three hours, but I was dismissed in 15 minutes. I would rather not have my wound looked after then going back there. Needless to say I didn't book a follow up. Surely they received my file from the referring hospital. If you don't want to accept the referral, don't accept it. Don't make the patient who pays taxes for medical care feel like crap.”Read moreShow less

“Had a bad experience for gyne surgery. I called before my surgery to ask if I could have a minor dental procedure one week before. I was cleared by the nurse to have the dental work. The morning of surgery, the pre-op nurse said they may cancel the surgery because I had dental work. They went ahead but it made me anxious, of course. A second procedure was added to the surgery last minute with very little explanation. I felt pressured to say yes as it was 20 minutes before surgery. The nurse i had in recovery was not kind at all. She helped me to the bathroom to make sure i could urinate, which i did, but it took me while. As i was trying to urinate she kept asking what was going on, like i was holding her up, no patience. Afterwards, I was rushed home. It was only 2pm. I was told "it's time to go". I was experiencing severe nausea and had to keep my head between my knees the whole drive home. Another nurse covered during her break and she was very nice, so it depends who you get, unfortunately. One week afterwards, I had a question about my wound and called in. I wasn't allowed to send a picture, she said any issues I have to go to my family doctor. I had another surgery at a different downtown hospital, and any issue I had the nurse said she would book me with the surgeon. I was disappointed at the level of care.”Read moreShow less
