Currently have a relative there. The dirtiest hospital and rudest nurses. Southlake used to be such a prestigious hospital, one we could be proud of-today it is an embarrassment and embodies every ‘problem’ that is with our healthcare system today.

My mother Maria 93 years old, was at the Southlake hospital recently and I don't have enough good words to say about an emergency and RAU departments staff. After she was transferred to RAU, where she was for over two weeks, from day one everybody was fantastic, caring, helpful and professional at every level. I would like to especially compliment Sherry from Emergency and Alexa and Amy from RAU departments for their kindness, care and showing exceptional level of nursing. They were simply the best!

The way they treat veterans with PTSD is an absolute disgrace. I took my my buddy there Friday night who was suffering from severe stomach pain (we are both vets who have PTSD), after about 2 hrs of waiting he was finally able to get comfortable on the floor and was sleeping. This male nurse who I wont name here but has red hair came over and approached him from behind and shook him and startled him. After I was able to get him relaxed I went up to the nurse to explain the situation in a calm manner. I was then accused of raising my voice (which I wasnt) and being in HIS space (after I was the one that called him over) and was given the choice to either let it go or he will have security escort me out. The fact that all I wanted to say was to if you dont want him on the floor let me know and I will wake him. I was told it doesnt matter if we are vets. This altercation put me in a trauma response holding back my anger which hindered my ability to effectively abdicated for my friend who is in all aspects a brother to me. I even asked for the charge nurse who was useless all that she said was thats how they are taught and its proceduer and when asked about how I was treated I got told she wasnt there for that so she cant do anything about it. Southlake should lower their heads in shame for this disgraceful act.

I wanted to say a huge thank you to my doctors and nurses at Southlake. I just spent 4.5 days there after a bad fall/ankle fracture. From the moment I arrived by ambulance I had incredible care. Everyone was kind and compassionate and made it the best experience it could be under the circumstances. Special thank you to Dr. Michael Sellan and my nurses on the ortho floor - Emily, Sarah, Nikita and Tania. I couldn’t be more grateful.

I spent 13 hours in Emergency with my dad yesterday. The things I was able to witness as a visitor all those hours is heartbreaking. Patients were helping other patients because the nurses are so busy. The state of our medical system is in ruins yet these heroes soldier on every day. I want to say thank you to EVERYONE for all your hard work. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, at least not by some. I would like to single out a few people who were there for most of our visit; firstly his primary care nurse, Melissa. Your kindness and compassion are a truly amazing. This hospital is lucky to have you. Thank you for everything you did in effort to make my father as comfortable as possible and keep me informed on his care. Secondly, Jeff, the patient ambassador. Your kind works and comforting nature brought calm to what was a truly horrible day. And lastly I'm terribly sorry I didn't get this lady's name as I was not in the best mental state at the time, the janitorial lady who worked the overnight shift on the morning of December 2nd. I hope whoever reads this at the hospital will make an effort to find out this lady's name and recognize her. She was so sweet and friendly, she offered some very kind words and made me smile and feel comforted when I was very scared. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart for all your efforts. You are all heroes.

Southlake Regional Health Centre is the most terrible hospital, the problem is on how they set the expectations to the patient and it’s family. My wife need to have a surgery for her broken bone, 1st we received the call to have the surgery on Saturday and arrived at 2pm then we got the call on Saturday at 11:00am and said the appointment needed to change to Sunday morning and arrived at 7:30am. We arrived on Sunday morning 7:30am and got ignored over 2 hours, in between I try to ask the Welcome Centre for help, they only gave me the answer that this is regular and their face told me that they don’t care. Almost 10am, finally a nurse came to greet us and told me that they don’t expect any patient came until noon, then why asked us arrive at 7:30?? Long sorry short, we are now almost 5pm and still waiting, a nurse who help us earlier is good, keep us updated but after her shift is over, the nurses who work for the night shift just gave me the face again they don’t care. I understand there is always emergency situation and there is others more urgency needs medical care. However, please think of the our side that my wife hasn’t eat or drink since last night 12am, which is over 17 hours. Other people is patient and are we not the patient? She is worried about her surgery, all the pains and scared, why need to torture her in this way? And the most satire thing is the whole hospital is having a poster Patient Declaration of Values with Honour my Time - My time is as important as yours, HAHA, is it a joke?? I have two young kids and they haven’t see their parent after they wake up in the morning until night. I understand it’s no use to post here, I just need a place to express myself. If you have any non-emergency situation, DON’T come to this hospital. PS: I am totally respect all doctors and nurses that all they do on the pandemic. But some of them are not professional at all and they don’t really care about the feeling of the patient and their family.

Our experience on Monday was amazing, but one nurse in particular has made an ever lasting impression on our little guy. Kelly or Karen-Anne, I'm so sorry I can't quite remember, but she truly went above and beyond for my son. he was petrified of getting blood drawn, he's been through a lot this year, and she was so patient. And then, once she had the needle in, she paused and calmed him, asked him if it was hurting, and he slowly calmed and said no. Yesterday he had another blood draw, and it was the easiest, calmest draw he's ever had. That is absolutely because of the patience and kindness of one incredible nurse! I'm almost positive her name is Kelly-Anne, but that woman will forever be our hero. Thank you!!!!

The ER is a disgrace to anyone in excruciating pain, don't go there if you are seriously in pain.
