I met with Sara at the Cambridge Midwives office 7 weeks after delivering a surrogate baby. I was previously told by my midwife during a routine stitch check-up that I had some sort of a prolapse but wasn't given more detail than that. I was freaking out leading up to my appointment not knowing what a prolapse meant or what my future looked like. I let Sara know right off the hop about my nerves and she eased my concerns right away. She had lots of small talk where we bonded over motherhood and such which really eased my mind going into it. She showed me the anatomy of the pelvic floor using a diagram which really helped to understand my body better. She did a full internal exam (at my consent) where she told me exactly what type and how much of a prolapse I have. Of course she also checked my abdominal muscles for separation. She gave me guidelines for how to manage my symptoms in everyday life, exercises to help me strengthen my pelvic floor and hopefully see improvement on my prolapse, and made me feel like the glass is half full... like a prolapse is not the worst thing ever and that there is hope for improvement. I left the appointment feeling totally empowered and ready to put in the work. She emailed me afterwards with a synopsis of the guidelines for exercise and everyday life that she had told me during the appointment so I always have it in my inbox for reference. I am so blown away by Sara and cannot recommend her enough to all postpartum people. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is SO important after giving birth. I believer everyone should have at least one postpartum appointment so they are aware of how their body has healed and learn how to properly build up the pelvic floor muscles again.
