“The Royal calls me six years after I've moved away from Ottawa. Leaves a message... Shrill beeping. Calls back again five minutes later, shrill beeping. I call the number back, the switch operator has no idea who I am. No emails. Nothing. Blocked. If you want to provide mental health services, maybe have humans call people.”Read moreShow less

“My last experience dealing with this service involved Dr…………. The Dr insulted me by getting angry with me and telling me I didn’t know how to properly kill myself.. I have had workplace concussions and I’m struggling. It was reported, but I lost faith in our mental health system.”Read moreShow less

“I was a patiant here in 2009 at the youth group for mental health . absolutely amazing it helped me grow and learn and take accountability for my mental health . We need a program for adults not just sitting talking to a mental health professional. a day program , education and talking as a group as well as life skills ( cooking and learning to better myself as an adult who has been in trouble with the law ) i have some very good friends who live here and they need structure , as well as myself . It helped me so much as a kid . Please consider this 🩷 thank you btw i was the patiant who loved simple plan”Read moreShow less

“This review is for the sleep clinic on the third floor: Showed up early for my appointment and yet I waited over and hour and a half and had to leave as my ride home was coming. Doctor never showed. I have EXTREME anxiety was battling it I sat waiting and waiting and waiting. Thankfully I did not have an episode and faint. Reception staff were aloof and didn't bother to check to see where the doctor was. The one reception lady seemed annoyed that I dare ask where the doctor was. Wasted a whole afternoon. I have been trying to get help for my sleep problems for 30 years. I thought this would be it. Nope.”Read moreShow less

“I've had a great experience with the partial hospitalization program, youth dbt program, and individual counselling with the social worker. However, the two psychiatrists I've had here aren't the best. One of them purposely made me cry and then admitted that she only did it to see how I'd react, and said that maybe i'd feel better if i lost weight (I was partially seeing her for an eating disorder) (she's no longer there). My other psychiatrist that I'm still currently seeing is very hard to get appointments with, refused to help me with my adhd meds, refused to write a simple lab req for liver functions, doesn't really listen to what i'm asking of her, and just overall seems way too old-school. Almost as if she hasn't had any recurrent training since she got her degree. I've seen another review here that mentioned her name so I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like her. Overall tho, I love the Royal and they have helped me so much more than any other place has. I wish psych's could do internal referrals but apparently that's not possible which I also find quite dumb”Read moreShow less

“Misdiagnosed and poorly treated. Find somewhere else if you were military. Poorly run administrative services. I had my email address spread out to other patients. Therapists are unwilling to share notes. I actually paid money to see what my therapist was writing about me. I was terminated by a therapist after a year with a poor excuse and blame was placed on me.”Read moreShow less

“I was there last week to submit a formal complaint against medical malpractice. I have been seeing my Doctor there for almost one year and this is the fourth time hey have incorrectly called me Jessica. They take very few notes and therefore with every appointment will ask me questions I already answered in our last discussion. I brought these concerns up directly to my Doctor the third time they got my name wrong (they blamed IT, fair - it was a technical error the first and maybe second time but 3 or 4? An apology without changed behaviour is manipulation. And when I brought up that this was the fourth time and this felt very triggering for me given our lengthy discussions about my near death experiences working with my employer, their insurance company and the institutions that are supposed to be there helping me… she said and I quote, “Why would this be triggering for you?” My jaw has never dropped before - is this my psychologist really asking me this question? Is this strategic incompetence or they really don’t know. I am concerned for other patients who don’t have the capacity to speak up like me. While I was making the request to transfer care, so hear a male employee sexually harassing two colleagues walking by. I am infuriated, disheartened, and not sure how I am going to get the energy to do the right thing and report this as well. In a mental health hospital!! In an insane world, it is the sane who are called crazy.”Read moreShow less

“If I could give negative starts I would!! If you love your family or friends… do not bring them here to be detoxed… they do not put any type of monitor on patients detoxing from any substance use… even when notified that every immediate family member has heart issues (wholes in hearts, murmurs and PVC)… My brother Brandon, checked into the Royal Ottawa on Tuesday Aug 6th, after receiving a referral from the General Hospital to go to the RAAM Clinic. I was with him, I packed his belongings, I drove him…. I sat in the room while he did his intake and disclosed the substances he abused and his routine with them… I was in the room when the Dr. Disclosed that it can be dangerous to detox off alcohol… “it can make your heart stop”. Before the Dr left to see about an detox bed for my brother I disclosed the heart issues to her… thinking they would take extra precautions with my brother detoxing from dangerous drugs and alcohol….. I left my brother there on Aug 6th thinking he was safe! It was around 11am when I left with a sense of relief thinking my brother was not only safe but getting the help he needed… Not even 24hrs later, on Aug 7th my brother “was found unresponsive” upon the morning check at 7-7:30am…. not once did he have any type of monitor on him to notify nurses if something was wrong… The coordinator of the program, Mike, confirmed to me that putting patients on monitors while detoxing from dangerous substances is “Not part of the protocol” Mike has been the director of the RAAM clinic for 27years and has never had monitors as part of the protocol for substance abuse detox, and when asked why they weren’t part of the protocols, there was no answers given. This place is extremely dangerous!!! Please don’t bring family here to die!!”Read moreShow less
