My family’s experience at this hospital during my father’s recent admission was deeply distressing and concerning. My father has acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is a permanent neck breather following prior laryngeal cancer. While admitted and placed on a palliative care unit due to lack of available acute-care beds, not because he was end-of-life, he went over 30 hours without IV fluids despite being medically fragile. During this time, he became severely dehydrated, his kidney function worsened, and his overall condition declined. In addition, his airway needs were not appropriately managed. As a neck breather, he requires humidified oxygen delivered properly through his tracheal airway. He was not consistently provided the correct oxygen setup or humidification, resulting in dried secretions and blood obstructing his only airway. These are basic, critical care needs. Communication with the care team was inconsistent, and concerns raised by family were not addressed with urgency. Being placed on a palliative unit appeared to change the level of attention and treatment he received, despite the fact that he was awaiting appropriate medical care, not comfort-only care. This experience has caused our family significant emotional distress and has raised serious concerns about patient safety, hydration management, airway care, and how patients are treated when labeled as “palliative.” I strongly urge hospital leadership to review this case and improve protocols to ensure that vulnerable patients receive appropriate medical care regardless of unit placement.

Waited 2 hours with a 10 month old with an extremely high fever who couldn’t stop vomiting because they would take him as a priority. Absolutely disgusting service. Staff need to be fired ASAP.

Thank you so much Lakerdidge Health Oshawa for always being there for our family. We visited today with our sick son. We were treated with amazing compassion and very clear answers. The volunteers were very quick to guide us through the progess of checking in and made sure we were as comfortable as possible. The nurses were effective with their triage and made sure our son was seen promptly! His doctor went above and beyond to make sure our son was examined, and reassured us. Thank you, for always being there for us! We Appreciate the tireless work that you are all doing each day!

The worst hospital service, they moved my mom from the ccu from a ventilator to a regular ward where they left her for they don’t know how long without ANY VITAL SIGNS. they wouldn’t take responsibility DR DOOBAY and DR ISLAM Covered up her death. They led us on for days keeping my mother in the ventilator, wouldn’t even let us see her even though they know she was dead and the ventilator was just to cover their deeds. I hope you never trust this hospital ( my mother ended up being ventilated because she’s a high risk patient and she went to the emergency the day before, they sent her home with “antibiotics” because they were busy. Next day I called the ambulance in the morning because my moms oxygen level dropped. They traumatized and ruined my family 💔😔

I’m going to tread lightly when I write this post , I just want to make people aware of how appalled I am with the treatment at lakeridge health Oshawa. I am a nurse and I know many amazing nurses. I know for a fact that we would never treat patients the way my grandfather is getting treated at this hospital. I’m not going to get into details but us as health care workers have a duty to do what is in the best interest of our patients , we have college standards and guidelines to follow. I know many of us are exhausted and at our limits that is still no excuse to not treat someone with compassion and dignity. Respect for human life. If you can be anything in this world , be kind. I’m really not sure what is happening to our humanity. This is a post by my niece re the terrible care her 98 yr old grandfather is getting at Oshawa

No empathy, no compassion, a lack of care and not will to find a resolution/solution to a concern being raised.

I recently had a surgery at this hospital. Overall I had an amazing experience. Would like to say big thank you to all staff members, especially to my surgeon Dr. Frombach and nurse Sue at Day Surgery/SDCU Department.
