Kelli is calm, empathetic and straightforward. An Indigenous counsellor with a lot of experience working with Indigenous folks. As someone who’s never tried hypnotherapy, I find it really calming and grounding, and I wouldn’t do that method with someone I didn’t feel I could trust, in a safe space. Kelli and her therapy dog create and hold that space.

0/5 Stars - Deeply Biased, Unethical, and Emotionally Damaging Experience Long but worth the read. I had an awful experience with Kelli Hanson, and I feel it’s important to warn others — especially couples. My husband had been seeing her individually for some time, and she later suggested we do a joint session together. He even asked if that would be a conflict of interest, and she confidently said that it “takes a very skilled counsellor to handle both,” and that she was willing to do it. That was the first red flag and it turned out to be a massive one. Any ethical, professionally trained counsellor knows that working with one partner individually and then bringing both into therapy is a serious conflict of interest. There is simply no way to remain neutral in that situation. She should have referred us to an unbiased couples therapist instead of taking us on herself. The session itself was incredibly unbalanced and frankly emotionally harmful. From the start, she was visibly biased toward my husband. She spent most of the time contradicting me, dismissing my experiences, and even telling me how I supposedly felt — which is the complete opposite of what therapy is supposed to do. When I tried to express my perspective or express any solutions to our problems, she talked over me or minimized it, while validating everything my husband said (or even putting words in his mouth). The lowest point was when I explained that I often feel gaslit in my relationship. Instead of exploring that with care, she flipped it on me and accused me of gaslighting him, she even became defensive and visibly angry. That is not therapeutic — that’s abusive and unprofessional. A counsellor’s job is to create a safe, neutral space where both people feel heard and supported. Instead, she turned the entire session into a one-sided interrogation. What’s worse is that my supportive husband later admitted that the session was completely uncalled for and agreed that she was biased and unfair throughout. Even he could see how inappropriate it was, despite being her long-term client. Her conduct violated basic counselling ethics: neutrality, empathy, respect for client autonomy, and emotional safety. There were no professional boundaries, no compassion, and no awareness of how damaging her actions were. I left that appointment feeling worse than I ever have after any kind of therapy; humiliated, invalidated, and blamed for everything. What should have been a healing step became an experience that did real emotional harm. Please, if you’re considering couples counselling, do not see someone who has already treated one of you individually. And I would strongly caution anyone against working with this counsellor. This was not just unhelpful — it was professionally irresponsible, unethical, and deeply harmful
