“Throughout the cleaning, the instruments repeatedly hit my tongue, and the procedure felt rough and unprofessional. The next day, the side of the back of my tongue became swollen and painful. While I can’t say with certainty that the swelling was caused by the cleaning, it started immediately afterward and is in the exact area that was repeatedly bumped during the procedure. the cleaning itself was incomplete. When I checked my teeth the next day, I noticed visible tartar still left on teeth. A professional dental cleaning should not leave obvious buildup behind. One more thing that makes this even more disappointing: I previously had my cleaning done by Margaret, and she did an excellent job every time. I always tried to book appointments with her, but I was later told that she was only a temporary staff member and was no longer available. It’s honestly hard to understand how a temporary hygienist provided a much higher standard of care than the regular staff. That alone says a lot about the consistency and quality of the clinic’s service.”Read moreShow less

“Today I took my 5-year-old daughter to see a dentist. The doctor I saw was very young and appeared extremely inexperienced. Whenever I asked her questions, she seemed unsure and couldn’t give clear answers. She first had my daughter do an X-ray, and then we started the tooth extraction. After working on it for a while, she kept digging around inside for about 15 minutes while my daughter was crying the entire time. Then she said there might still be a piece left and even asked whether we wanted to leave it there. It was already inflamed—why would we leave it? Does extracting a tooth mean only removing half of it? After that, she asked us to take another X-ray. I was very upset. I understand that X-rays are not 3D and images can overlap, but if a second X-ray was needed, why not say so earlier? Why spend 15–20 minutes digging around first? What about all the pain my daughter went through and all the time she spent crying? I am extremely dissatisfied and intend to file a complaint. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had taking my child to the dentist.”Read moreShow less

“Great experience with my hygienists so far in the two appointments I've had; they were gentle and would check in to make sure I was okay. The dentist was super informative and friendly; she made me feel comfortable, and I was able to ask her questions.”

“I was told that leaving a Google review is the only way to share my dissatisfaction, so here I am. I’ve been a patient at HK Dental for over 15 years, and overall my experience has been very positive. Historically, the front desk has always been thorough—checking my insurance in advance, informing me what services I’m eligible for (cleanings, X-rays, doctor visits), and confirming everything before and after appointments. That’s why my experience during this visit was so surprising and disappointing. In November, I was told I had unused units for teeth cleaning and was booked for a February cleaning with the understanding that it would be covered by my insurance. However, during today’s appointment (Feb 6 at 10am), in the MIDDLE of my teeth cleaning, a male staff member (last name Guan) entered the room and told me I was not eligible for the service and would need to pay out of pocket. I explained that my insurance had already been checked with a female staff prior to booking and asked him to re-verify the information. Instead of calmly confirming the details, he lectured me while I was lying in the chair, spoke over me, and repeatedly insisted that I should know my own insurance policy. He did not listen to my explanation, which made the situation very uncomfortable and unprofessional. It later became clear that he was referencing an insurance policy that had expired over two years ago. I repeatedly informed him that my current insurance is with Canada Life, not GroupHealth, yet this was not verified before my appointment was interrupted. Even when I suggested confirming directly with the insurance company, he said he would call later in the afternoon, leaving the issue unresolved during my visit. As a result, although I booked a 60-minute cleaning, I received less than 30 minutes, and the entire experience was stressful and disruptive. My hygienist was apologetic and clearly felt bad about what happened. In the past, any insurance questions were always resolved before my appointment to ensure a smooth experience. Interrupting a patient mid-procedure, lecturing them, and failing to verify basic insurance information beforehand is not acceptable. Regardless of any misunderstanding, the situation was handled unprofessionally. I hope HK Dental addresses this internally, as this experience was completely out of line with the level of care and service I’ve come to expect over the past 15+ years.”Read moreShow less

“We had our first checkup visit to HK Dental last week and it was a really good experience. Dr. Lam was very professional and especially kind during my child’s check-up. Kids can be a handful at times, but she was extremely patient and made my child feel comfortable. That really meant a lot to us as parents. We’re definitely looking forward to bringing our family back for future visits.”Read moreShow less
