“Since Joanne Simons became CEO of Casey House, the community has declined rapidly. In the Canadian legal system, there are already over 20 cases filed against Joanne Simons, and it is an absolute shame that the Board of Directors has failed to replace her, along with the other executive personnel at Casey House. Dr. Ed, the chief medical officer, is the most grossly inhumane doctor I have ever encountered. I repeatedly forwarded emails to Casey House leadership, pleading for help — either to connect me with a family doctor or to support me in managing my HIV status after the breakdown of my relationship with my former family doctor. My requests were ignored time after time, email after email. Finally, Dr. Ed responded, dismissing me outright by stating that I was “not qualified” for the care they provide — despite the fact that I have been a member of this community for many years. This was shocking, devastating, and unacceptable. As a result, I filed a strong lawsuit against these three individuals: Ed, Joanne, and Lisa (Director of Communications). No community in Canada should ever treat people with such disregard, disgrace, and inhumanity, especially while publicly claiming to serve vulnerable populations. And when this lawsuit reaches its conclusion, I fully intend to bring this matter to the news. The disgrace I endured — and that others may also have endured — must be exposed, particularly when the Board of Directors continues to protect failed leadership at Casey House rather than holding them accountable.”
