My mom joined CareFirst in September 2023. At that time, it was an absolute blessing that I found this centre for my mom. She was very, very depressed. She couldn't sleep. She lived alone and had macular degeneration. My mom was always a very active person. She loved driving her car. When she was no longer able to drive her car and her eye sight deterioted preventing her to see, it was absolutely heartbreaking. My mom love to bake, cook, make bread. She was always on the go. She wasn't one to sit around. When she joined care first, they gave her a second lease on her life. It was wonderful. Sadly it only lasted for about 3 months. Almost seemed like the novelty wore off for them. Just before Christmas 2023, my mom tells me how one day, the centre were moving their clients to another room for an activity. They forgot about my mom. She cried the entire Christmas holiday. She kept saying "why would they do that to me? Why would they forget about me? Why don't they say good morning to me anymore". (A note about the good mornings. The staff went overboard with all the good mornings and being so friendly and nice and complementing ... for the first 3 months. It made my mom so happy) She cried and cried and cried during the holidays. She no longer wanted to return. It ruined everyone's Christmas. Absolutely heartbreaking! I brought this to the attention of the Care Centre and they apologized. They said to give them another chance so we did. It was good for a couple of months and then my mom wasn't happy again. I kept thinking it was my mom imagining this. I didn't believe her. 😥 On August 29th 2024 I had to rush my mother to the hospital. She had been at the care center 2 days prior. Took the wheel trans bus as she always did. What a shock it was to see her take such a major turn for the worse. On August 29th. She couldn't breathe. Long story short she had cancer. It spread to her chest and to her vocal cords. They had to do an emergency tracheotomy. I informed the care centre, they did not respond. Two weeks later. I informed them she would not be returning, she's dying. No response! On October 2024, I sent an email expressing how disappointed I was in their lack of care and interest in my mom. Rosita, the supervisor, replied saying they were sorry and would I like them to make a video for my mom. I did not respond and have never heard from them again. No sympathy, no condolences! Nothing! To Rosita and your staff, SHAME ON YOU

Very caring & nice staff, always very welcoming to my elderly mother who attends the seniors program on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

My mom successfully completed her program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She has endless thanks for Venus and Paul, her program instructors. Their kindness, courtesy, patience and care were highly appreciated. She was very sad to leave and wished she could have an opportunity to continue. My mom's mood and walking ability has improved and it's all thanks to them and other participants in the program. I would highly recommend this program and Carefirst services to others. Many thanks My mom is also grateful to the Dr and Pharmacist of the Gain clinic. She is always satisfied with her visits to the Gain clinic and would like to say thanks for referring her to the Access and Restore Program. Many thanks.

My mom needed respite care after her shoulder surgery so we admitted her to Carefirst Transition Center. The application process took a week which was quite acceptable. This center has about 30 beds with two sharing one room and a bathroom. The current rate is $185 per night taxes included. The staff are very friendly and pleasant. They are always ready to help at any time! This place is clean and safe. The only area that can needs improvement will be their meals, breakfast is excellent but food for lunch and dinner are almost same. Overall, it’s an amazing respite center offering exceptional services!

Visited the medical clinic on the second floor for the first time. The entire building was very new, staff were friendly and proactively offered help. The medical team was professional, as long as you were on time, they were on time as well. I am glad to see such an organization offering quality support in the community.

This seniors home was recommended to us from LHIN. We requested respite care on an emergency basis but LHIN could not help. They recommended this place and I spoke to Helena quite often. She was nice and very communicable. However the hoops that they want a senior to jump through is so stressful and unreal that we had to cancel. Not only is this the most expensive daily rate of any respite care we’ve contacted, we were desperate enough to drop the $185 a day plus tax. I signed off on giving them everything they asked for from my dad’s file. They were given My dad’s complete discharge documents, imaging etc. they require a chest X-ray within last 3 months just to be considered. That was fine as my dad had a few weeks stay at the hospital, followed by step down Care at a rehabilitation centre recently. One of the X-rays showed some Pneumonia and it was noted on the paperwork. He was given antibiotics for the pneumonia and stayed in medical care for a month after to heal from other medical issues. Discharge papers state ”The patient is medically stable and discharged from the RCC to home with services in his usual state of health.”. This was not good enough. To say that this was stressful is an understatement. I give 2 stars because Helena was nice and promptly replied, however their policy is so ambiguous and unlogical that it makes it very easy for them to turn a way patients. As a caregiver I kept hearing about services available to keep patients at home and services to help keep caregivers sane. Respite care seems to be one of those feel good terms but the actual service seems impossible especially when there’s an emergency. Even though this home was a completely different culture , I was open to it as I feel we are moving away from multiculturalism and thought this was a great way to influence many Portuguese people to give this place a try. Even with the $200 daily charge, it was something we were looking forward to but it was not meant to be. Hard to want to recommend this place to our community. I also won’t be subjecting my almost 90 yr old dad to unneeded radiation for a chest X-ray to “be considered” if he’s a candidate for respite care.

I love the institution. Ming and my teacher Ellen are angels. They equipped me with so much knowledge and in a very friendly manner They care home is also state of the art. I wouldn't have any reservations when recommending a client to seek help there

My dad is living in the transitional care centre there. All staff are amazing. They are friendly, caring, responsible and very professional. The facility is on the small side, but clean and bright. There are semi private rooms and private rooms. Not cheap since its private but its a very good option for respite care.

New building so everything is new and clean. Definitely love coming here after switching all my sisters to this clinic. Nice staff and they offer a lot of activities you can enroll seniors in. My grandma loves coming here. She has like an addiction to seeing doctors for their opinions.... I think they are still accepting new patients to sign up so definitely do so!

I brought my mother here recently to stay for a week and was impressed by the cleanliness and look of the facility. The staff seemed polite and caring to my mothers needs, but i noticed some of the newer nurses had difficulty answering my questions. I tried to contact the care director but she never returned my calls, when i saw her in the lobby and tried to ask her a question about my moms care she turned and walk away after she finished speaking with a staff member... This was very offputting for me. Otherwise the staffs attention and the meals were decent but after a week my mom was starting to miss my cooking!
